All this talk of baked beans makes me wonder if y’all understand that the bbs we get in England are a totally different animal to the ones you muricans get.
Our baked beans are a specially cultivated bean, designed to have no taste or flavour whatsoever, cooked in a rich mildly spicy, and rather sweet tomato sauce. Heinz had the original but most supermarkets have their own (inferior) brands and there is my fave - Cross & Blackwell.
I’m enjoying all the possibilities. Now I need to find a grocery here that sells British style beans. There is one locally owned smaller supermarket with lots of speciality stuff I am going to try. I’m hoping they also might have a ‘brown sauce’. Now that I know what that is.
There are two supermarkets near us, four miles away in different directions. I know one of them has a UK food section, and they have Heinz beans. I think the other one also has a UK food section, but I never looked. FWIW, the one store’s UK foods are next to the Asian foods, Kosher foods, and possibly Mexican foods.
