"Fashion Star"

I don’t have cable, so I’m still waiting fro the ninth season of “Project Runway” to come out on DVD …

Nah, who am I trying to kid, I have the most godawful taste in TV.

Okay, watched last night, and will continue to watch – but the premise is quite murky to me. What is the significance of the amounts that the stores are bidding? Is that an amount that goes to the designer just straight, here’s $50K? Who pays for the production costs for the clothes?

Didn’t watch it, but wanted to let you know that if you’re talking about the show that premiered on NBC last night, it is called “Fashion Star.”

Thanks. I’ll fix. benefits of being a moderator

I don’t know the answer to your questions, but I understand that the premise of the show is that the clothes shown are available in the stores the next day. So I assume that the show is taped, correct? Otherwise, I can’t see how the logistics work.

Yeah, it was all taped last summer – so Jessica Simpson, though a bit plump, is not massively pregnant.

I don’t watch much reality (Real Housewives Atlanta & Beverly Hills) and no fashion, but there wasn’t anything else on last night so I watched bits and pieces. I liked it. I liked seeing lots of different fashions and I liked the comments from the mentors and the buyers.

I wasn’t at all surprised that the first person eliminated was the one who said “Women don’t know men’s fashion” when they dissed his motorcycle jackets. Whuh?

The short dude who was saved from elimination will be fun to watch. Not sure about the blonde with the doofus haircut whose designs consisted of ties and collars on clothes she didn’t design.

I peeked in last night out of curiosity. I think TWOP nailed it:

Nailed it, maybe, but so far, the comments on the new show are positive. People like seeing fashions they might actually wear.

It’s like Project Runway will be for the fashionistas, and Fashion Star will be for the rest of us. The clothes they showed can actually be worn, off a runway, and outside Manhattan and Beverly Hills. Or wherever fashionable types hang out.

And the reviewer got it wrong. We saw at least one designer sewing.

Side note. Do not waste your money or your time. It was by far the worst season. I don’t think I’ll watch the show again and I’ve been loyal since season one.

Time only, I get 'em from Netflix. And though I think the show has gone downhill – remember when they had challenges that involved tricky materials, like materials used in making a car? I loved those – I’ll watch S9 when it appears. And yeah, judging from passing comments on FB and elsewhere – I don’t read the threads here – it sounds pretty bad. Doesn’t matter.

Definitely looking forward to the all-star season that’s airing now.

All Stars is much, much, much better than PR9. That was by far the worst season of PR. Nearly turned me off from ever watching the show again.

I don’t like Fashion Star. I tend to tune in to reality competitions to see creativity in action. Show me someone creating a meal around lutefish or making a dress out of recycled materials and I’m happy. Listening to vapid remarks by starlets like Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie not so much.
