I’m sitting here listening to a couple tracks. I remember tha I really like the rest of the album of theirs I own, not just the hits (“The Way”, “Was I Out of My Head”). Looking them up on allmusic.com, it seems like they did kind of fade after that first record, I don’t even remembver the second one, but they do have a new one out soon. I’ll be looking for it.
I like the album you refer to (All the Pain Money Can Buy). Their next one, Harsh Light of Day, didn’t make as much of an impression on me, but maybe I haven’t given it enough of a chance. But I’ve read a couple good reviews of their new album, and it’s going on my To-At-Least-Consider-Buying list.
You may want to seek out the CD Normal by Big Car, which showed up in the bargain bins a few years ago: this is apparently an earlier band with Fastball’s singer/guitarist/songwriter Miles Zuniga, and it’s a pretty solid collection of songs.
Their song “Slow Drag” is one of my favorite songs. Besides that and the singles off that album, though, I wasn’t overly impressed, so I’m not really surprised they faded.
I was in the record store one day and noticed that Fastball had released a greatest-hits collection. Given their scant output, it seemed pretty pointless.
It’s nice to see the band got back together. Here is a good article detailing the dissolution and surprising rebirth of the band.
Snooooopy, thanks for the link! I’m glad their problemswere of the “creative/personal differences” and not the more cliched drug/alcohol problems. And aren’t Greatest Hits records sometimes done by the records companies to fulfill contracts or something?
