Does anyone know where I can find a free XM-to-MP3 or XM-to-WAV converter? I’ve tried looking through some of the major search engines and most of them only have information on how to create XM files but none mention any XM-to-MP3 converter. TIA.
Whats XM? I’ve never heard of that. I usually find my software on tucows.com, they have just about any share or freeware prog you could ask for.
XM is a music tracking format similar to MOD or S3M, Nanook. Basically, you import sound samples (such as a guitar pluck, a bass pluck, and each individual drum), align (‘sequence’) them all together and by modifying the original pitch electronically, you can produce all sorts of music.
Kasuo, WinAMP (www.winamp.com) does recognize both formats but I’m not sure it can convert between MP3/WAV and XM. Whereas XM is a sequence, WAV and MP3 are straight digital audio. Depending on how well your computer is configured (or how much time you want to put into configuring it), you may be able to play the XM thru your XM player and have something like CoolEdit directly record the output, which you could save as WAV or MP3.
