I think you are very right that the murderer wanted to “go out in a blaze of glory” and be remembered forever as the man who saved Denver from the drag queens who were grooming all the childrens of the world. Now he gets to spend the rest of his life remembering getting his ass kicked by a bunch of queer lovers.
As to the Giffords shooting, responsible gun owners train as well and one of the big lessons we learn is to not shoot until you are sure of your target and the backdrop.
A big problem with today’s gun culture in the US is that training is NOT required. Too many people walking around with too many guns who haven’t a clue what they’re doing. It’s all about “rights” and nothing about responsibility for those chuckleheads.
I’m a huge proponent of firearms training, and I agree there are too many gunowners who lack it. But training shouldn’t be required, IMO, just highly encouraged. Training should never be required as a prerequisite for exercising a right, else it ceases to be a right. But this is not GD, so that’s all I’ll say about that.

As to identity and pronouns, a) we’ll see what collateral reports and internet presence tell us; b) it’s stll a hate crime if you kill others in your minority group.

I can’t help but wonder if they are trolling. Mass murder being strong evidence of bad faith IMHO. But on the bright side, it’s a chance to demonstrate to bigots just how easy it is to refer to someone as they prefer.
OTOH, knowing your father would / did hate you to your core if he knew what you are would have to have been a pretty corrosive coming of age experience for the kid.
I wonder how much the kid was filled with self-loathing versus filled with father-loathing versus generic gay-loathing.
One thing’s for sure, there is a lot of hate in one compact spot at his home address. We may not have the Hater-in-Chief from that address in custody. Yet.
