So- I’ve had Firefox for months and its been wonderful. This morning, it won’t open. When I try to open Firefox, I keep getting a Fatal Exception OD at 0000:0000FF08. I have tried everything I feel comfortable doing- reboots, virus scans, spyware scans, uninstallation and reinstallation of Firefox.
Nothing works
I never got around to installing and using Thurderbird, but I gave that a try today and got the same Fatal Exception.
Could this have something to do with those “Critical” Windows updates I installed Wednesday? Is is something else? Does anyone have suggestions for things I can do or should I wait for our Computer Guru’s Tuesday visit?
Make sure to do a clean uninstall, ie when you have uninstalled Firefox in the normal fashion, go to Windows/Application Data and delete the Mozilla folder. This will insure that Firefox starts with a new profile (many problems are the result of a corrupted profile.)
Thank you, PatriotX and aldiboronti. I tried doing a clean boot and a clean uninstall, but, unfortunately, neither worked. I do appreciate the suggestions and I’m sure I’ll remember them when something equally maddening pops up next week.
First, I’d see if I can uninstall the critical update. Do these show up in the “Uninstall Programs” list in Control Panel?
If that didn’t help, then I’d see if I get a critical exception with everything that tries to connect to the net. Does IE also crap out?
Unfortunately, this happened to me once when I was running Win98, where every program crashed that tried to access the net, and the only solution I could find was re-installing Win 98.
There’s a way to uninstall and re-install just the TCP/IP stack on Win98 , IIRC. That didn’t help me, but maybe it could solve your problem. I no longer have the instructions for this, perhaps some Googling or somebody else in the thread can provide the method.
