I purchased over a pound of pure anhydrous caffeine powder online.
Let’s say one of these tired nights I wake up to get a fraction of a teaspoon of caffeine (anything over a gram of caffeine is going to have extreme effects and may cause a heart attack).
However, out of sheer drowsiness, or that banana peel on the ground, or that puddle of water on the ground, I fall face flat into my hoard of caffeine and get a nice mouthful of it in my mouth. It adheres to the insides of my mouth, being sticky when wet.
Could this be fatal? Is there a possibility that I could have a fatal dose in my mouth?
If I immediately rinse my mouth, is that enough? Or should I get my stomach pumped?
Getting your stomach pumped wouldn’t help since you didn’t swallow it. If enough got absorbed into the mucous membranes of your mouth/throat/esophagus that you were actually at risk of a heart attack (or whatever it would cause) your best bet would be to go to the ER. My guess is that they’d give you some kind of benzo (Valium/Ativan/Xanax etc) and/or Benedryl to slow you down.
I did the calculation once on my 1.1 pounds of powder and I figured that at 200 mg a day, it’d last me 7-8 years (can’t exactly remember)!
I hardly even use 200 mg a week since it’s sorta bitter tasting and doesn’t really dissolve well in water; it always sinks to the bottom and I know when the sediment on the bottom reaches my mouth - it’s sorta strong tasting! But it seems to dissolve well in juices and other liquids! Plus the sugar in juices masks the taste. If you can stand the taste of it in powder form or in water or have food or drink, it’s a real cost-cutter! Imagine buying energy drinks each day straight for a year. Multiply by 7! Despite it’s taste, it’s a real life-saver when I’m tired and the taste is nothing when I really need to stay awake.
Just be careful with the dosages! I’d probably label the container as “NOT FLOUR” or “POISONOUS” or “DO NOT EAT” if you have family members or friends that like to snoop around in your cabinets; they could mistake it for flour … and cooking with a cup of caffeine - **that’s bound to kill. **
