fate of the Greaseman?

What has happened to our renegade radio personality since his unfortunate, ahem, racial brainlock on-air? Did he complete his Tour of Repentance? Has the heat died down enough for him to resume his career?

I thought of him while experiencing a Massive this morning.

I’ve often wondered that too. He hasn’t been on the radio here in Atlanta for several years. (Even before the ‘incident’)

I only want to know one thing. What did he call it when you were gettin’ a “Snarlin”, WHILE you were taking a massive?

Since he pretty much made his career filling in the morning slot that opened when a station fired Howerd Stern, keep your eyes focused on New York.

I met him once. He and his wife came to the resturaunt where I was Associate Chef. After eating, he talked with the waiters and waitresses, kitchen staff, and anyone who wanted to chat. He’s actually a very nice, approachable person.

As far as “the incident” goes, yeah, it was incredibly stupid of him. Though I’ve never really regarded him as funny (except for the “avocado sized doodads”) I understand that morning radio is a tough business, with jocks always trying to get that rating. The competition is fierce. If a station loses morning listeners, they’ll s-can the jock in a heartbeat. Because of this, he (and all am jocks on like stations) MUST push the envelope and try to be as “out there” as possible. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t recognize when he was about to cross the line.

I haven’t heard him since he was in Philly oh-I-don’t-know-how-many-years-ago. (Didn’t like him! Wondered how the heck he got on there!)

I hate to ask this… And please, if you’d rather e-mail me with it, that’s perfectly okay … but what exactly did he do?

There was a profile of him in the Washington Post several months ago, and several mentions of him in the radio column. I believe if you go through the archives of the radio chat from two or three months ago, you’ll come across him.

If I recall correctly, he was approached by a radio station in the Virgin Islands or somewhere in the Carribbean, but that didn’t work out. I think he’s now doing Internet radio from his basement, and plans to continue.

Details may be wrong but basically…

Shortly after the racially motivated dragging death of a black man in Texas, He played a song clip by some (black) rap star, turned it off and stated “no wonder people drag them behind trucks”

Not sure the current whereabouts of Doug Tracht, but the last I heard of his last year, he signed on to do a radio show on a Caribbean island. I think the owner of the station had some connection with him in the past, and thought his name would be a boon, so he signed him up. Then the mostly-black islanders heard about why he got fired the last time and led a huge protest. Job offer rescinded.

According to http://www.dcrtv.com he might try to buy some airtime to get back on the radio.

I was actually listening to Greaseman when he made his comment. I guess that’s my brush with history.

jimshep is basically right. Greaseman was doing a “Nino News Roundup” (he pretended a guy named Nino Greasemanelli did the news) and was reporting that Lauryn Hill had received a bunch of Grammy nominations. Her music was playing in the background and Greaseman said “No wonder they get dragged behind trucks.”

He had an earlier incident while at WWDC-FM.

When Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday was made a national holiday, he said something to the effect: “Kill 4 more, and we can take the whole week off.”
