Father Guido Sarducci and other little remembered SNL characters.

Massive Headwound Harry.

Jon Lovitz as the host of “Tales of Ribaldry.”

I think Jon Lovitz’s whole SNL career was defined by amusing but minor short-run characters. Like the Get To Know Me! guy, the Master Thespian (ACTING!) and Tommy Flanagan the pathological liar (and his lovely wife . . . Morgan Fairchild. Yeah, that’s the ticket).

Just for the record, Don Novello created the role of Father Guido Sarducci well before there was a Saturday Night Live, and had appeared in that persona on TV many times before SNL, notably on The Smothers Brothers Show. He hass appeared as the character outside of SNL as well on several TV shows, and in the movie Casper the Friendly Ghost. So he’s not really a “SNL character” in the same way, say, “The Coneheads” (which were created for the show) were.

Christopher Walken as The Continental.

Christopher Walken (and Will Farrell) in the cowbell skit.

I remember that! I can’t remember the interviewer’s name, but he was played by Kevin Nealon.

Has anyone mentioned Mr. Subliminal PM me your credit card number, expiration date and 3-digit authorization code?

I think Kevin Nealon did that while hosting Weekend Update. And I know I’m the only one who thinks this, but I liked Kevin hosting better than almost anyone else. At least when it comes to single hosts. His jokes were extremely simple “If you would like a transcript, take out a pencil and paper, and write down what I’m saying.”, but his delivery made them funny. At least to me.

I always did think that nobody could find him funny :stuck_out_tongue:

I walked right into that one

Has anyone mentioned Buck Henry as Uncle Roy?

If we’re including one-time characters, I’ll never forget Christopher Walken’s Colonel Angus.

I didn’t think it was all that much, but my wife really loved Colonel Angus for some reason.

Dang, I was going to mention him. I thought it was really hilarious when he tells a farm boy that he’s going by his first name, Anal.

Colonel Angus: [ to a passing farm boy ] You there, Boy! ride into town and tell the Postmaster… that if anyone is looking for Anal Angus… to come knockin’ at the rear entrance… of Shady Thicket.

Farm Boy: Euuuggghhh…

Wasn’t part of the bit that someone (his wife) was named Cunnil?

Here’s a Transcript

That’s Colonel to you, sir! But you may call me by my given name, Enol.

Y’know, I actually used his practical joke with the musical greeting card (pull out the music player and hide it in someone’s room/office). It worked great–they really are difficult to find if you find the right spot.

rummmmm…pummmmmmmmm…!

I used to like Tim Kazurinsky’s Dr. Jack Badofsky bits on Weekend Update. And I’m probably the only one.

…And Biggirl wins the thread. Nothing in the world beats Gilda doing Patti Smith.

Of course, it was it was pretty cool to find that the Samurai Butcher could sing.

Well, when the title mentions Father Guido Sarducci, who went on to be on several other shows and is hardly forgotten himself…
