Father's Day promotion at a sex toy shop? Ewww...

(Not really much of a rant; sorry, but I figured this was probably the best spot for a post like this.)

I heard an ad on the radio last week for a local “adult” store’s Father’s Day promotion; apparently it has a more couples and romance-oriented focus. I was still rather weirded out by the wording.

The ad was targeted at women but never used the phrase “your husband”; instead, the announcer just talked about buying things for “dad”. Worse yet, near the end it suggested something like “buy lingerie for yourself and wear it - yes, that definitely counts for a present for him.”

I’m sorry, maybe it’s me, but I don’t know any woman who refers to her husband as “dad” except when talking to their kids (“listen to Dad”) or in reference to him being a father (“their dad always takes them to…”, etc.). Didn’t they run this ad past someone to test it? I mentioned this ad to other people and they about fell over at the thought of a sex toys/etc. shop running this kind of promotion, much less using very vaguely creepy (unintentionally, I’m sure) wording about the relationship of the purchaser and the father.

Ew ew ew ew ew ew…

Who’s your daddy!
Who’s your daddy!
Who’s your daddy!
Who’s your daddy!
Who’s your daddy!

That’s the fastest transition from puking to laughing I’ve ever had.
