Fave opening sequences that make creative use of the studio's logo

You know what I mean. How the Warner Bros. logo morphed into the Batman logo? Or how, the Raiders of the Lost Ark series made use of the mountain shown in the Paramount Pictures icon as a way of starting the actual movie. I love when they do this, it shows some creative tweaking.

What’s your favorite example of this? Mine has got to be the Batman morphs that have been done.

I liked the Universal logo morph into a picture of Earth in Serenity.

Not a morph, but it was cute when, in one of the Road pictures, Hope and Crosby’s travels took them past a mountain that looked just like the Paramount logo.

One or both of the X-Men films left the “x” in the Fox billboard lit for a short time after the rest had faded. Not all that impressive, but a nice little touch.

My favorite is an anti-logo, on the Simpsons, when at the end of the opening sequence Homer jumps up from the couch, grabs the FOX logo out of the corner of the screen and stomps on it.

At the end of “Strait Jacket”–the 1964 William Castle horror flick starring Joan Crawford–the Columbia Features Logo has her head cut off!

I’ve never seen the movie but I’ve heard about this - at the beginning of Waterworld, the oceans on the Earth in the Universal logo rise up to cover the land. That sounds super-cool to me, I’ve actually been tempted to rent the movie for this bit alone. Can anyone confirm that this is real and someone wasn’t pulling my leg?

It’s real. The only cool things to come out of that movie are that, and Jeanne Tripplehorn in a skimpy costume.

I came here to say the Waterworld one. I agree, it’s possibly the best part of the entire movie.

I like how they made the Warner Bros. logo green in The Matrix.

For the disco-themed Thank God It’s Friday Columbia Pictures’ “lady with the torch” animates and busts some disco moves.

Ever see the ending to movies hosted by Elvira? There’s a looped bit of footage with a man like Terry-Thomas striking a gong; the caption says “A Rank Amateur Production” as he hits the gong over and over.

Sounds similar to the Raiders of the Lost Ark one- on Eddie Murphy’s “Coming to America” at the paramount logo the camera sweeps in and over the mountain revealing the lush valley of the fictional African country Murphy’s character is prince of.

Bugger it, I came in to mention this one!

In addition to the WB logo being green for The Matrix, isn’t that also the first time they used the ripple effect as well? It fit the movie well.

Although I’ve never seen the film, I’ve seen flipping through the channels the opening of The 'Burbs, which zooms in to the neighborhood where the film takes place from the Universal globe.

The recent Disney film Sky High opened on a comic-book city skyline, transitioning from the Walt Disney Pictures logo. The Disney castle can be seen in the city skyline. That made me laugh.

In the movie Cat Ballou, the Columbia Pictures logo is shown, then throws off her robe to reveal she’s dressed as a lady gunslinger and starts shooting as you hear banjo music, whereupon Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye start singing. “It’s a hangin’ day, in Wolf City Wyomin’…”

In the movie Charlie’s Angels, the sky in the background of the logo pans directly to the opening scene on an airplane

In “The Mouse That Roared” the Columbia Lady with the Torch suddenly blinks and then looks down as a mouse runs out from under her skirt.

And in the sequel, the Columbia lady’s torch becomes the fire in a fireplace in the opening scene.

The Columbia Lady with the Torch is named “Columbia.”

She’s Uncle Sam’s wife, or sumptin’.

Beat by a few minutes, but it has to be pointed that it is a bit frequently cut from TV showings. Rent the movie to see it.
