Favorite Alcoholic Celibrity?

Seconded!

In fact, I’m gonna go get a drink right now, and dedicate it to P.J.!

Aren’t we forgetting someone?

I didn’t know Judi Dench had a drinking problem.

Ron White was the first person I thought of, but Shane’s got him beat by entire taverns.

Another vote for the peg toothed wonder.

Dean Martin and Oliver Reed.

Oh and Dave Allen

Keith Moon.

Charles Bukowski

Jim Morrison. In the rock world of druggies, you have to admire anyone who stuck to old fashion booze.

Nearly forgot genius jazz musican Bix Beiderbecke. You gotta admire the dedication and stick-to-it-iveness of someone who can drink himself to death at 28.

W. C. Fields by a mile, at least in my book.

“I never drink water…fish fuck in it.”

I just have to stick my oar in again.

I really doubt that Dean Martin was a serious drinker. He was the main attraction on a weekly, hour-long TV show that was reasonably long running. Considering the time needed to put together such a project every single week for 39 weeks there isn’t a lot of time for boozing.

Movies are slightly different. A binge drinker can stay sober long enough to complete the shooting schedule. If he or she happens tie one on those scenes can be “shot around” and done later because there’s lots of other stuff to be done that doesn’t involve the actor.

That’s what Jim Morrison did.

Sports celebrities who’ve used the camera as a means of displaying their drunkenness, or alcohol has caused me to stick my foot in my mouth:

“Broadway” Joe Namath - Verbally molests Suzy Kolber.
Jimmy the Greek - Attempts to educate America on the evolution of the black ath-a-lete.

Well, i’ll a vote for two who have already beend named:

Shane McGowan

Oliver Reed
I served the latter a few times when i worked behind a bar in England.

The OP didn’t ask who drank the most but who our favorite was. Any asshole can drink himself stupid and have his vomit encrusted shame displayed on consumption whaddyacallit dot com but Dino made being drunk look good and sang damn well while doing it.

Gene Tracy, the trucker comic.

If anyone else has ever heard of him I’ll be amazed but man, was that guy ever funny. In college we knew all his stuff by heart.

If you’re going to list Peter O’Toole, you’ve got to mention Richard Harris. And Richard Burton, for that matter.

My personal favorite: Graham Chapman.

Where’s the love for the mean drunks? I vote for Jerry Lee Lewis!

In re: Dean Martin. Seems I read somewhere that he actually wasn’t such a heavy drinker and that the coctail he carried around was more or less just part of his schtick.
