God help me, but I love Cow Christmas. Christmas songs chock full of bovine puns left and right.
Mooo, moo-moo moo-moo-moo, moo-moo moo-moo-moo, moo-moo moo-moo-moooo-oooooo
(Sung to “Glo-o-o-o-o-ria in excelsis Deo” in “Angels We Have Heard on High”)
My favorite Christmas album when I was a kid (late 70’s) was The Partridge Family Christmas album. I loved their version of Jingle Bells. Now, thanks to you all (and the reason I curse you), I have that song playing over and over in my head.
Ironically enough, I was never a fan of either their show or their regular music.
Nowadays I can’t get into the Christmas sprit without a sprinkling of Elvis and a dash of Jimmy Buffett. Gary Hoey and the Trans Siberian Orchestra have helped lately, too.
The Ventures’ Christmas Album (obviously by the Ventures), from 1965, has always been a favorite of mine. You’ve got to love intrumental surf rock Christmas songs. Their 2002 followup, Christmas Joy, wasn’t so hot (though it’s not terrible).
Completely agree that it is my favorite as well, to the extent that “Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow” is part of my exercise playlist on ye olde IPod. I’ll sing along to this even in the heat of July.
Oh, man. When I was a kid, my Dad would play **Boney M’s Christmas Album ** all the time. Now it just isn’t Christmas without it.
Dad, big Christmas fan that he is, would often make his own holiday compilations, and they must include, if we’re going to have any sort of happy holiday at all, these songs:
The theme from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Selections from the Nutcracker
My mother’s favourite Mariah Carey Christmas song - something about “All I Want For Christmas Is You” - it’s really boppy, and though I’m no fan of Mariah, it reminds me of how happy my mother gets when she hears that song, so it’s all good.
Random Chipmunks Christmas songs
Smurf Christmas songs from ancient 45s
Oi to the World - Dad likes the No Doubt version, I prefer the Vandals, of course
And it would be utter sacriledge to not include “(Let’s Have) A Patrick Swayze Christmas” by Crow T. Robot.
“Frosty the Snowman” from Jack Frost - silly movie but that song smokes!
“Winter Wonderland” from When Harry Met Sally - thumping piano instrumental by Harry Connick, Jr.
Amazon.com]The Carol Album: Seven Centuries of Christmas Music. My one complaint is that there can be quite a change in volume from one track to the next. However, I love all the carols.
