Thanks for stopping by.
My family was big into Christmas stuff when I was little so I’ll always be more into the older style stuff like Bing Crosby and Johnny Mathis.

OK, I’ll admit it… I like South Park’s Mr. Hankey’s Christmas Classics. Well, I can do without “Mr. Hankey The Christmas Poo” and a couple of others, but I love Cartman singing “O Holy Night” … “it is the night with the Christmas trees and pie”
Every year I put in a plug for the Broadway Cares: Carols for a Cure CDS. These are simply the best holiday music that you will ever hear. Broadway cast members combine the traditional with their own original holiday songs, and they are just so damn good.
This year, they have put out a boxed set of the entire 8CD collection, It’s well worth the money, and it’s for a good cause, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
I don’t have any favorites, no family standards or anything. My parents never had any real interest in music, other than as background filler that you didn’t actually hear, and my wife and I haven’t gotten anything started with our own kids. But I think it’s something worth trying out. I know we have a few bargain bin CD collections of Xmas tunes, classical-type and traditional, and also the Squirrel Nut Zippers Xmas album. We’ll see what happens this year.
When I was a kid, like, kindergarten age and younger, I remember listening to a Jim Nabors Christmas album all the time, all year any time. I can still hear him singing “Do You Hear What I Hear” in my head. Man, did I just love that record!
Christmas just isn’t Christmas without Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Another favourite was one I had as a kid but apparently, over the years, got lost: Glen Campbells Christmas album with the song “Little Toy Trains”…now, if anyone happens to have a copy (because over the years I have not been able to find it through anywhere)…I would be prepared to make an offer/pay for a copy/…
The Messiah: A Soulful Celebration.
And I will admit to a recent-years affection for a couple of Amy Grant Christmas collections.
Well, that’s a relief.
Phil Spectors thirded
I love “Christmas is the Time” by Lou Rawls, plus others mentioned in this thread.
I generally despise Christmas music, but my immediate close siblings and spouses have a sappy drunken gen-X sing-along every holiday season with the Pogues “Fairytale of New York.”
And I like the Bowie/Bing Crosby version of the Drummer Boy. I like that song. It gets my Marxist feathers ruffled. “I am a poor boy, too.” Makes me tear up
Seconded. It’s a beautiful album.
I grew up listening to Merry Christmas by Johnny Mathis and it’s still not Christmas without it.
And I love Aaron Neville’s Soulful Christmas
My favorite modern Christmas song is Dar Williams’ “The Christians and the Pagans.”
