You can never be saved, only converted when a better game comes out. I am on the Povar server with 5 characters.
Top ten? Hmmm…as of right now, I guess it’s
Master of Magic
Total Annihilation (Just started getting back into this one: It’s still the best real time strategy game of all time)
Diablo
Carmageddon
Jedi Knight II
Strife
Wing Commander IV (I think. The last one before it went online)
Fallout
Fallout II
Half Life
a few honerable mentions: X Wing vs. tie fighter, Dungeon Keeper I, Theme Hospital, Entrepreneur, Master Of Orion, Civ, Xenophobe (I THINK that’s what it was called: international bases fight invading aliens), Balder’s Gate, Redneck Rampage.
I haven’t gotten any PC games lately.
From my Commodore 64 days: Wizard’s Crown and the Eternal Dagger sequel
Gunship by Microprose
Phantasy
Libian Commandoes (A VERY tasteless game)
M.U.L.E.
Questron
That game where you’re a robot and have to either take over other robots or destroy them in a spaceship
Barbarian (The special decapitation attack was hilarious)
In alphabetical order, some favorites from over the years:
Alley Cat
Blockout
Carmageddon
Civilization, II
Commander Keen 1, 2, 3 (not so “keen” on trilogy 2)
Constructor
Creatures, 3 (2 was great, but too buggy)
Death Track
Epic Pinball
Lemmings
Sim City, 2000, 3000
Supaplex
The Settlers
The Sims
Warcraft II
Wolfenstein 3D
So many games… such a bad memory… sigh
Does anyone remember a game from…oh, gosh - 1982 or so…for the Apple IIe called Twerps? I loved that game. At least, I think I did. I was very young, and it was twenty years ago… I’d love to find an emulator for that one somewhere.
Anyway, without further ado:
- The Sims (esp with the expansion pack)
- Civ II: Test of Time
- Hi, Opal!
- RollerCoaster Tycoon
- Spider Solitaire (comes with Windows ME - it’s pretty addictive)
- Sim City (any version)
- Maniac Mansion (Day of the Tentacle didn’t do nearly as much for me)
- Sim Life
- Sherlock - the old DOS-based version
- Fearless Fred and the Chamber of Doom - on the C64
- I fully expect to place Simsville somewhere on this list when it comes out

- Nethack – You don’t know what Nethack is? You pathetic, ignorant fool!
- Planescape: Torment – So far, the best CRPG ever made. Immersive, complex, compelling.
- Fallout II – Until Planescape: Torment came out, this was the best CRPG ever made. It had all the advantages of Fallout, but it was bigger, with interface improvements and an added political dimension: you must decide who to favor in conflicts among the powers of the wasteland.
- Fallout – Came out of nowhere at a time when the CRPG field was drying up, and changed everything. Not only was it a Science Fiction setting, which is rare for an RPG, it was also unlike anything previously seen. It was the first computer game in which I ever found myself buried in the character.
- Baldur’s Gate II – This came mighty close to being as good as Fallout. It’s certainly more involved, and the storyline is rich.
- Icewind Dale – Like Baldur’s Gate. The story is thinner, but the interface and level design are greatly improved.
- Baldur’s Gate – It was fantastic at the time. The story gets a little pretentious with its dream sequences and all, and there are a lot of practically empty maps that must be explored just in case, but overall it was a marvelous game, especially after adding the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion.
- System Shock 2 – The computer vs. my pants. I never quite finished this game, as it was making me extremely nervous.
- Deus Ex – A fun game, more of a 1st person sneaker than a shooter. The story is very linear, though you eventually get a chance to make a major decision as to how events unfold. I don’t want to give anything away, but let’s just say that one of the possible endings is such complete and total utter fucking bullshit that it infuriated me.
- EverQuest – Among the people I know who subscribe to this game, I play it the least. But I still consider it worth the money.
