Favorite Daily Show Segment Titles

Every time Jon starts in on something, there’s anticipation, waiting for the graphic. It’s usually a clever pun. What are some of the best?

My current favorite was from a week or two back, relating to the various abortion and contraception politicking going on across the country. "The Vagina Ideologues"

A segment about hyperbolic statements made by political opponents of Obama was titled President Evil, which I thought was clever.

And of course, when they began talking about Obama’s potential second term, it changed to President Evil 2.

One of my favorites goes way back to the Craig Kilborn days, when they did a story about some cruise lines that catered to gays. The cruise line was organizing a boycott of the Cayman Islands because the Caymans were trying to officially ban the gay cruise ships from docking there. Or something like that. Anyway, the tagline for that story was “Cayman, My Ass!”

It’s not a pun, but I did like the one about Sarah Palin raising a bunch of money days before deciding not to run for President.

Take The Money and Don’t Run

Some years ago a perky morning show host did a story about her colonoscopy. TDS segment title card, complete with crosshairs logo: Public Enema.

Honorable mention goes to the death of Bin Ladin with Bye Bye Beardy.

One that really stuck with me for some reason was from back when Bill Clinton visited Portugal: Hot Lisbon Action.

We have ourselves a Mess-o-potamia.

“Seriously? We just added a P.”

Those aren’t segments.

Did you do that deliberately?

When Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg, and Jon wanted to reach out to the youth of America with some avuncular advice, the segment was titled, ‘Jon Stewart Touches Kids’, subtitled, ‘Our Little Secret’. The best part was, as it often is, Jon’s reaction to the appearance of the titles.

That wasn’t too bright.

Yup, that’s the recurring title that made me chuckle most often.

A few years ago he “reported” on a story of a male elephant in a zoo in Jerusalem that was violent towards female elephants. The assumption was that the elephant was gay. The title? Fudge Pachyderm.

Tough to beat “Indecision 2000/04/06/08/10/12.”

I enjoyed “Toyotathon of Death.”

“Indecision 2000” really worked on the day after the election, when the show came on with everyone’s clothes askew, an over flowing ashtray on the desk, and everyone’s got bags under their eyes. Jon looks blearily into the camera and said that when they called it ‘Indecision 2000,’ they were joking! The country wasn’t supposed to take it seriously.

TDS recently did a bit on the latest Rush Limbaugh debacle. They showed a large photo of Limbaugh’s furious face.
The title: “Extremely Loud And Incredibly Gross”

For a story about a big company paying homeless people to wear equipment to act as mobile wifi hotspots at the SXSW festival: “Serf the Web”
