Favorite Dream Sequences in Movies/TV

“Lousy Smarch weather.”

The one where Homer Simpson falls asleep at the wheel and his car turns into a bed.
Also, not really a dream but more of a hallucination, in the beginning sequence of Conspiracy Theory, Mel’s driving a cab with a fare in the back, he goes off on some paranoid delusion, when he snaps back to reality, the guy in the back is frantically pounding on the glass partition demanding to be let out.

I think that’s got to be in my top five list of hardest I’ve ever laughed. (I’m laughing right now just thinking about it.)

Ghostbusters - when Ray gets it on with the ghost

Brady Bunch - When Bobby is Billy the Kid’s sidekick on the train

Simpsons - What’s the matter homer? you never saw a naked woman riding a clam before?

My vote as well. Not for the (terrific) scare at the end, but for the atmosphere and staging leading up to it. One of the very few dream sequences that captured the surrealistic look and feel of dreams. For me, anyway.

Post 25 and I’m the first one to mention Inception? It’s like a dream within a dream within a dream.

From Monty Python’s Flying Circus - I couldn’t find a clip of it, but it was from the episode with a single, 30 minute long sketch. Michael Palin is a typical, average, humdrum English chap who through a bizarre series of mishaps ends up imprisoned in a Soviet gulag awaiting execution (this takes a while since the firing squad all miss him!) While rotting away in the cell, Palin’s eyes flutter closed, his head lolls back and we see wavy lines and hear harp music, and…

He’s back at his very proper backyard garden in England! His mother (Eric Idle in drag) is handing a lemonade.

Palin: “Mater! My home! I’m back safe and sound in merry old England! It was all just a dream!”

Mother: (breezy laugh) "No, dear. THIS is the dream. You’re really still back in that prison cell.’

Then we see wavy lines, cue the harp music and…

He’s awake in the cell.

Shite! Missed the edit window, but here it is; from “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” episode The Cycling Tour

(Commercial at beginning of clip. Sorry 'bout that, but I couldn’t find one without.)
