Favorite flowers

Lilacs and old roses.

Yes, some new roses look nice enough, but sniff around some of the classics and you’ll notice the difference. And the best-smelling lilacs are the light-coloured ones, not white or dark purple.

The law only applies to wild growing colonies, such as you find in Lancaster (about the only notable thing about Lancaster is each spring massive displays of California poppies bloom there). You can pick plants that you grow in your own yard. In fact, my plants are blooming quite nicely right now (much of the front yard is a wild type garden, so i let them grow with abandon). The law exists to protect wild colonies from would be flower collectors.

Roses (all colors)

Violets

Lilies

Carnations

I love roses. A dozen blood-red, long stemmed roses with baby’s breath and greens…just beautiful.

Rose

I like Lilacs and Pansies, I remember buying seed when I was 8 years old and planting pansies…I think that was the last time I actually gardened…

Freesia

Peruvian lilies

Stargazer lilies

Apricot roses

Always with lots of baby’s breathe.

Daisies are my absolute favorite.

Others I like are
[ul]
[li]Calla lilies[/li][li]Black-eyed Susans[/li][li]Sunflowers[/li][/ul]

I’m right there with evilbeth and racerx– daisies are my absolute fav (especially gerber daisies)! But really I like any flower. I love 'em! The springtime and summertime are great for buying flowers. I buy just for the sake of having something beautiful!

Stargazer lilies
Casablanca lilies
Tulips, tulips, tulips!
Lily of the Valley
Orange blossoms
Freesia
Peonies (mom’s favorite, too)
Roses are nice, but I prefer the old-fashioned English-style roses that look like cabbages (have several of them growing in my backyard)
Wisteria

I will just say Red Lotus

Any flower that is a color other than red/pink/white, especially two-tone flowers.

I’d either like masses and masses of really cheap flowers, or a single expensive one. Not a dozen roses… one rose, or two dozen carnations.

I love flowers.

Roses, preferably with an unusual color or strong scent, or miniature ones or climbing roses with masses of flowers.
Irises, one of the things I remember most about my great-grandmother’s garden were the beds of iris.
Larkspur, again from my gran’s garden.
Honeysuckle
Wisteria, such a wonderful smell.
Magnolia, which not only has a wonder smell and a beautiful flower, the petals feel like the softest leather, then they dry furry.
Parrot tulips, esp. the black ones
Azaleas - my alma matter had huge mounds of azaleas that would be covered in blooms, and the white ones would glow at dusk.
Dogwood, also from school. Won’t grow around here sigh
Daffodils, naturalized
Hollyhocks, single only, thanks. (can’t get them anyway except by seed, grumble, grumble)
Marigolds, for the smell.
Snapdragons, 'cause they’re fun.
Gardenias, which not only look and smell good, but the petals have a wonderful texture.
Morning glories
Sacred datura (also known as moonflowers and jimson weed)
Bluebonnets (that’s required)
Evening primrose (also known as buttercup)
Indian paintbrush

  • take those last three and scatter in patches across a field - glorious!
Jeez, it would have been easier to list the flowers I don’t like
