What's your favorite flower as a gift?

I much prefer most other flowers to red roses.

I know they are supposed to be “THE ONLY” romantic bloom, but when I get them it’s about like getting Chef Boy-ar-Dee spaghetti at a restaurant.

I want something prettier, more special. Roses to me are about as romantic as carnations or mums. i.e, better for Grandma.

Yellow, and especially peach colored rose buds are a little better, but a real gift would be something different.

Tulips are great. All colors, for any occasion.

(Poppies, especially the tulip-shapes, not the broad California Mission poppy shape, are the ideal for me, but too fragile to give. Once plucked, they flatten out like a popped souffle.)

Getting a bleeding heart plant would be a real treat.

Snapdragons are fun to play with.

Tiger lillies just make me happy, don’t know why.

What am I leaving out?

I Love tulips and carnations(colored).
But for a gift, I would say a bunch of daisies.

I like tulips or gerbera daisies. There is a rose I like but I don’t know the name. It’s yellow on the outside but the inside of the petals is a reddish brown (not dead) color. They’re really striking but I have no idea the name of this rose.

Freesia is always nice because it smells sweet.

I don’t know, I’d probably like a big sunflower and some wildflowers better than anything else though.

I guess I would have to pick daisies if I MUST choose a real flower.
But more than anything I would be touched if someone knew me well enough to get me fake flowers - they don’t die.
They have really cool fake black roses at some craft stores.
Or a little gingko tree. Gingkos have so much character.
I am not sure that any nursery or flower shop carries gingko trees.
Venus Flytraps are pretty cool, too.

I have a thing for lillies. Pick a colour, I love em. Daisies and Tulips too.

My favourite flower I’ve received as a gift though, was a rose. It was white and pink, given to me by a four year old boy that I used to babysit.

Well, flowers are the sex organs of the plant, so right now I prefer Sweet Peas

I love roses, any color, but my favorite is actually called Blue Girl, it’s a lavender color. Second would be the really deep dark red, like Mirandy or Mr. Lincoln. I prefer the live plants to cut roses, though.
I also like Irises, Tulips, snapdragons, and the tiny violas, the purple ones, I forget their name right now. Actually, I would be happy with wildflowers picked in a field, if it meant that he was thinking of me. I love just about all flowers.

My favorite would be either magnolia blossom or gardinias. For looks I love the big mums. Nicest one I ever got was this huge white mum with greenery, and a little bumblebee stuck in the flower. If I had to pick a rose, yellow is my favorite.

To give: Irises and roses. (Not in the same bouquet) I sent my Dad yellow roses for his 50th birthday. Don’t underestimate flowers for the guys in your life. He’d never received flowers before, and he loved it!

To receive: Irises & roses again, and to echo megaroo, lilies, especially Calla lilies. But also carnations, because of their wonderful scent. Lilacs are the most best, but fragile, so you rarely can send them.

Any flowers that are blue…

They just look so purty!

I like roses of course, but Tulips make me smile. The are fresh and just happy flowers if you ask me.

Definitely tulips are my favourite followed by carnations.

Daffodils. “A host of golden daffodils.” At least three dozen, so I can revel in the yellow and “let my heart fill with pleasure and dance with the daffodils.”

Personally I would never accept a bouquet of any type of flowers for any gift or reason. They will only wilt and die and be a huge waste of money. I’d perfer something a little bit more personal, or at least has some thought into it

Woah woah woah!

How could you possibly care about thought when you obviously want something more materialistic? And how can you suggest that there is no thought in flowers because they will “wilt and die” when whoever it is that is giving them to you knows damn well that they’re not going to last forever, and yet cares enough to buy them for you?

If your main complaint is that you want something that’s going to last, DRY THEM!

It’s black with a white stripe running down its back. Beautiful blue eyes, and you can call him flower if you want too…

Tulips are my favorite. Then lilies.

When my hubby and I were living together and not yet married, we got in a huge raging arguement (he was wrong) and the next day he had the nerve to send me a dozen red roses! I could have killed the man, as I despise roses. The smell, to me, is nauseating. Plus, the cats would eat the filler flowers (babies breath, et al.) and puke all over the house.

Now, it’s a running joke (and a testament of his love) that he sends me the ugliest flowers arrangements he can find. Let me tell you, florists can really do a job when you challenge them. I’ve received some arrangements that you would be hard pressed to find anything that even resembles a traditional flower. He’s a good man.

daisies…a nice pile of white or yellow ones…brighten up my day…

“Don’t underestimate flowers for the guys in your life”

you’re so right. i gave this guy a daffodil this teacher at school was giving away to people (he grows them by the millions every year and likes to give them away) because i felt bad not having a birthday present. he was tickled pink. kept it for quite a while…may even still have it.

I worked with a guy who bought his wife yellow roses. Her feelings were hurt because yellow roses (apparently) mean friendship. She thought that she should be given red roses from him if he really loved her. He was stunned. I thought that all the whole flower meaning went out long ago.

Any I’m not allergic to (sigh). When I came back to work after six weeks off sick, the CEO sent a huge and gorgeous flower arrangement as a “welcome back.” I couldn’t get within 15 feet of it; instant asthma :frowning: It was a nice thought, though.

I love to look at other people’s flowers, though, from a safe distance.
