Favorite Kevin Costner Movie

I made a post similar to this, but not a poll, way back in 2008. I didn’t actually recall it, but it came up as a suggested similar topic when I started this thread. :grinning: The James Earl Jones thread prompted me to mention Field of Dreams, which sent me down this rabbit hole. So, KC has been in quite a few of my favorite movies, I’m going to list just 10 of his here, plus an option if yours didn’t make it.

  • The Untouchables
  • Silverado
  • No Way Out
  • Bull Durham
  • Field of Dreams
  • Dances with Wolves
  • The Bodyguard
  • JFK
  • Wyatt Earp
  • Tin Cup
  • Mine wasn’t listed

I’d say his only two good movies are Untouchables and Wyatt Earp. Everything else is at best Ok and most just bad.

And Untouchables is his only great movie.

Edit; OK I forgot about JFK that is in fact a good movie. Even if it’s based on homophobic BS.

No Way Out was his best performance. Silverado pretty good too.

You don’t like Silverado? Really? I mean, he’s not the star but that is one hell of a movie. Opinions may vary, of course.

“He’s in the car.”

I haven’t seen it in a long time, but my recollection is that Wyatt Earp was just bad Tombstone?

I like the Untouchables, but he’s the worst actor in it so tough to vote for it. Does better in Field of Dreams and that’s what I went with.

My favorite Costner movie wasn’t on the list, so I opted for Bull Durham.

My favorite was The Big Chill. He killed in that role!

Fandango wasnt listed.

Toss-up between the 2 baseball movies.

No one liked The Postman?

I liked Open range with Duvall as well.

Bull Durham for me, and it’s not even close for me (YMMV of course).

I like Tin Cup more than I should, probably because it is in some ways similar to Bull Durham, and I have a copy of Waterworld which I watch despite Costner, rather than because of it (as I said in another thread, it’s worth the 4.99 I paid for the DVD to watch Dennis Hopper chew the scenery) as well as a copy of The Bodyguard for my trio of owned movies.

The bodyguard is for the soundtrack, which, while sappy, is a fond memory. And it’s not terrible, but KC’s role isn’t dependent on KC’s skills, almost anyone competent could have done well in the role.

Yeah, he got tired running those 18 bases.

I voted off the list, but I also really liked:

Mr. Brooks

Dances with Wolves is probably better, but Mr. Brooks got overlooked by many.

Its not impossible that I had these two movies mixed up

I’d put that below Waterworld IMO. Though possibly that’s because I read the book

I thought he was outstanding in Hidden Figures. I’ve said it before, he’s much better in supporting roles.

Oh yeah that’s definitely a good movie. And yeah unlike Untouchables he was actually good in it (but it’s no Untouchables)

I must correct myself, I also have a copy and enjoy Open Range. I find it a better movie than all but Bull Durham that I’ve watched, but I always forget it because it’s not near the top of my favorite Westerns.

So owned: Bull Durham, Waterworld, Bodyguard, Open Range

Silverado. Fun movie, great cast, and a really interesting DVD commentary track by 3 western historians.

Fandango, Untouchables and The Big Chill.
