Favorite Music Video?

I can think of a lot of good ones -

Live - Lightning Crashes (what can i say… sends chills down my spine)
Pearl Jam - Jeremy (powerful one about school shootings… although im not quite sure if jeremy shoots the other kids or shoots himself…)
Prodigy - Smack my bitch up (what a twist at the end eh??)
Massive Attack - Teardrop (the one with the baby in the womb… very cool)
Foo Fighters - Big Me (the mentos parody)
Soungarden - Black Hole Sun (very creative if nothing else)
Korn - Freak on a leash (im a sucker for that bullet effect)

but I have to say my favorite is…

Collective Soul - The World I Know

Lightning Crashes comes close but I have to go with Collective Soul on this one. This video is so powerful and so artistic. The way the colors become so much richer in the end is brilliant.

So what’s your favorites?

There can be only one: A-ha “Take On Me”

But Wax’s “California” is a close second (it’s the one with the burning man running to catch a bus)

And of course:

Another vote for Take on Me, the definitive music video.

Then there’s Thriller.

Paula Abdul’s “Cold-Hearted Snake.” I remember thinking how racy that video was.

That song is about an actual event in which the boy shot himself in front of his classmates.

Collective Soul - “The world I know” is certainly a good pick but I’m gonna have to go with:

Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice

Fatboy Slim made some great videos. “Sunset Bird” is a powerful video that begins with LBJ’s famous mushroom cloud commercial. Most of the rest of the video is footage of a fighter pilot flying around, but it’s really a lot cooler than I make it sound.

“Push the Tempo” is a bizarre video featuring a cassette tape that makes people lose control of their limbs.

“Right Here, Right Now” is a fantastic video that compresses the evolution of man into 3 and a half minutes.

Or how about “Gangsta Trippin’?” Three full minutes of crap getting blown up. Can’t beat that!

On to non-Fatboy stuff:

For some reason, I love the video for Kraftwerk’s “The Robots.” If you ever figure out why, please let me know.

“Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails is another favorite. Haunting black and white images make the song seem so much more powerful.

“Are We Here” by Orbital presents a splendid contrast between the sheer dullness of a laundromat and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.

Or how about Radiohead’s “Just,” which spawned god-knows-how-many “what was that guy saying at the end?” threads on message boards around the world?

Another good one from Radiohead that doesn’t get played too often is “Motion Picture Soundtrack (Extended version).” It features some very trippy computer animation.

If you hated both Bush and Gore in the last election, Rage Against the Machine’s “Tesify” is the video for you. Michael Moore directed it. It presents many not-so-contrasting pictures of the two candidates.

“Refuse/Resist” by Sepultura. Power with a capitol “P.”

“Persistance of Memory” by Afro-Celt Sound System. A beautiful journey around the world.

It’s really too bad that most videos aren’t made widely available for purchase. I had to use P2P, Usenet, and IRC to find most of the videos in my list.

Rush’s Time Stand Still because it’s so god damn funny! It has Neil Peart, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Aimee Man floating around (they were filmed against a blue screen) over various backgrounds, and in the studio. It looks like someone clicked on their image with a mouse and just dragged it around. I’m sure it was impressive for the time, but it just looks ridiculous now.

Metallica-Fuel Love the song, and drag racing is badass
Fatboy Slim-Weapon of Choice Christopher Walken can dance
Beastie Boys-Sabotage Absolutely hilarious
Dynamite Hack-Boys in the Hood Another hilarious one
U2-Where the Streets Have no Name I like videos that disrupt everyday life, so we include:
Rage Against the Machine-Sleep Now in the Fire
NIN-Closer Just weird stuff, but not as weird as:
Tool-Sober I hear it makes more sense if you watch Prison Sex first

Nanci Griffith, “I Knew Love.”

There can only be one:

“Fish heads, fish heads, roly-poly fish heads…”

Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer is cool.

All of Bjork’s videos. I love just about every one of them.

Prodigy’s ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ is cool, but I never ever see it anymore.

I like Coldplay’s recent video where everything is in reverse except for his mouth singing.

Two categories: Subdued and Over-The-Top
Subdued: Wonderful Life by Black - Very cool b&w video with trampolinists arcing through the air in slo mo with empty carnival rides in the background.

OTT: It can only be… Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler - Bonnie running around an all boys school at night in a flowing white dress while fencers, bikers, choirboys, football players and ninjas (yes ninjas) run around and dance out of time to the music. And the eyes… the eyes. Still a great video nonetheless.

i have a soft spot for Weapon of Choice as well…
freaky dancing from christopher walken makes me happy.

quite like The Dandy Warhols “Bohemian Like You”, nudity, freaks, and karaoke, all in one!

UNKLE - Rabbit In Your Headlights
The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated

I just downloaded this and watched it. Great stuff. The vast majority of videos out there are so uninspired but then you come across something like this and everything is made right.

Gary Numan - Cars
One of the first intentional music videos ever made.

Goodshirt: Blowing Dirt

Like the latest Coldplay music video, except it all done in a single take. And it came out about 6 months before them :stuck_out_tongue: And they got to smash up a car in the process.

Catch it here
