ACME store brand cola…3 liters for $0.95 . A can of Coke in a vending machine costs more nowadays.
BTW, ACME is a real supermarket chain where I live in south Jersey, not just Wile E. Coyote’s mail order outfit.
The only thing worse than Moxie is diet Moxie.
I like Minute Maid Orange soda.
ahem I’m a chick.
But no, there is no birch beer of any type around these parts. On the other hand, we have Solo orange soda, which almost makes up for it.
Kroger’s Dr. K is much better than Dr. Pepper. Sam’s Green Lightning is a suitable Mountain Dew substitute, as well.
since i ain’t american i have no idea of what most of these strange beverages are…
in in ireland we get
coke
cherry coke
pepsi
sprite
fanta
club orange
lemon
rock shandy
jolt
and that’s about the height of it.
but i like cidona and irn bru best. (you know,non-alc, fizzy apple juice and that toxic scottish stuff)
Ooops. I didn’t know that. Please forgive my ignorance. :o I wasn’t wearing my glasses when I typed my last message.
Would a couple of two-liter bottles of birch beer make up for my ignorant sexist assumption? Or would the customs people stop it at the border fearing it’s some kind of noxious chemical weapon?
Again, my apologies. I promise not to make that mistake again.
Yer pal,
Zappo
In Buffalo, New York, there must be more local brands of pop than any simnilarly sized metropolitan area. The biggies are Vizniak (found in every garage in Cheektowaga), Black Rock and Consumer’s, none of which are found in supermarkets. Aunt Rosie’s Loganberry is a local delicacy that’s found just about everywhere. When I’m back hoe, though, my preference is just for a case of cheapo Tops supermarket brand cola. Tastes like a batch of Coke and Pepsi mixed together.

chalk one up for Diet Rite Red Raspberry!
mmmmm!
I absolutely love Safeway’s Grapefruit flavor. That and Hansen’s. Hansen’s is “all natural” and has cool flavors like grapefruit, vanilla cherry cola, kiwi strawberry, key lime… mmmm!
Here in Southern California, we have a chain of markets called Whole Foods. They sell things like organic produce, free-range chicken, lots of soy/alternative/vegan products. Now, Whole Foods Market has their own brand called 365, and their sodas are absolutely the best I’ve ever had. Not only are they no caffiene/no artificial flavors or colors, but their prices are equivalent to your regular big brand sodas (which turns me off from Hansens, because they can be so expensive). The Root Beer, Cherry Creme, and Orange Creme are fantastic.
Bumbazine mentioned Cock & Bull’s Ginger Beer. By gawd isn’t that stuff terrific. I just have a hard time finding it–the only place I’ve ever seen it is at a hoity-toity market by my mother’s house an hour’s drive away.
We have ACME here in Ohio, too! Right down the road from my house as a matter of fact. Did you also have Click? The same company owned them, and it has been changed to ACME SuperCenter, which was completely inferior.
As far as soda goes, give me some Faygo RedPop. Right now. I can only find it in large volume in southern Ohio, and am forced to load up when I visit my aunt in Columbus.
Tahitian Treat is also very good, but I think it’s made by Coke.
Safeway Select’s Diet Orange.
Beats the fizz outta Sunkist, Slice and any other Brand Name Orange soda.
Does anyone remember Boy Howdy beer?
It was always advertised in Creem magazine.
I always wondered if it was real or a joke.
Please tell me you’re either kidding or a 75 year old man from Maine. That is the most vile beverage on the face of the earth.
I rarely drink soda, so I’m not sure if these are main stream or not.
Mrs. Spritle loves **Diet Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry Soda ** (and it K[sub]P[/sub]).
I’ve been known to drink Stewart’s Root Beer (reg and diet), Stewart’s Lime Soda and Stewart’s Orange Soda on rare occasion.
I don’t drink soda very often, either, but I do keep a variety of Boylan’s fine products around the house, particularly the cream soda and black cherry soda, which compare very favorably to Dr. Brown’s.
Borealis birch beer and Virgil’s root beer, too, although these are really fency-schmency Yuppie beverages, and not “off-brands.”
And Reed’s Ginger Brew isn’t bad stuff, but it doesn’t pack the punch or the burn of Vernor’s.
First of all, I LOVE RC Cola. It tastes far better than Coke or Pepsi, in my opinion.
Secondly, I also LOVE store-brand rip-offs of brand name sodas. “Dr. Radical” (Dr Pepper ripoff) and “Yellow Lightning” (either a Mello Yellow or Mountain Dew ripoff, or both) are available at Big Y Markets here in Western Massachusetts. They taste great; I’m not sure what company makes them–maybe Big Y itself?
WalMart Sam’s soda----the caff-free diet cola is better than Diet Coke but not as good as Diet Pepsi. Nothing is as good as Diet Pepsi.
I like Coke, Dr. Pepper, and RC, but I rarely drink them because the caffeine keeps me awake at night.
I like Canfield’s Chocolate Soda. I also love grape Fruitopia.
Ahem Do none of you people know the best Soda on the face of the earth? Jones Soda. There simply is none better. Anyone who can make a vanilla cream soda I can enjoy is GOD.
