favorite off-brand soda

To Mercutio:
I liked Snapple Creme d’ Vanilla (vanilla cream), but they stopped making it. Too bad. Unlike some vanilla cream sodas, Snapple Creme d’ Vanilla actually tasted like real vanilla. I’ve never even seen Jones Soda. Is it distributed nationwide?

AMEN!!! I used to live about 30 miles from the ‘brewery’.

I also loved ‘Ale-8-1’ when I was a kid - a ginger ale-like soda sold almost exclusively in Central Kentucky.

And for those of you who despair ever drinking your faves again… have you tried http://www.bevnet.com/ ?

a) Not kidding.
b) Almost 36 year old man from Connecticut (spawned in NH).

Moxie is not the most vile beverage on earth. That would be Diet Moxie, or possibly oysters and stout. It does take getting used to, the best way to describe the taste for all you Moxie virgins out there is to picture a mix of root beer and Cepacol mouth wash. But I find that on a hot summer day, nothing quenches the thirst like an ice-cold Moxie. And it’s pretty good with a splash of Jack Daniel’s in it too.

Squirt is my favorite. It’s a grapefruit soda. At least it was off brand way back when. I did get to drink some down in Mexico a couple of years ago. “lo de toronja…” Yumm.

Hey, Zappo, relax. I’m not mad, okay?

But it does have me wondering if maybe I should demonstrate my chickness a little more clearly. How’s this?:

My favorite soda ever is Ale 8 1. You can only get this stuff around Lexington, KY, so I have to make the drive from St. Louis every now and then to buy out a Kroger’s down there. If for some reason I run out of that, there’s locally brewed Ski. That’s a fine beverage also.

50/50 is my favorite.
Its very grapefruity and refreshing.
Anyone else like it?

TAB – A bit hard to find these days, but I have a local grocery store order it for me by the case.

RC! RC! RC!

Either that or Grape Crush. It’s really good if you mix the two! Or at least it salves two cravings at once.

Is Canfield’s Soda still in business?

Years ago, when I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, I used to drink their ginger ale and their grapefruit-lime.

Another soda that I can’t find anywhere in the Omaha area is red cream soda. The stuff I used to get in Chicago and in Norfolk, VA was Fanta brand. Somehow red cream soda just tastes better than the so-called white cream A&W we get here.

I CAN get Stewart’s Orange&Cream here and it’s quite good.

Huminahuminahumina. . .and you a Lancaster Catholic alumna!

I shall not forget, ever again.

Yer pal,

Zappo

Jones soda is all over the place out here in Oregon, but I’ve yet to see Jones vanilla cream soda. OTOH Stewart’s is everywhere here also, but I have to go to Washington to get Stewart’s ginger beer. go figure.

Which reminds me, Stewart’s key lime soda is awesome, too.

Stewart’s is excellent, but kind of pricey. For a more normally-priced off-brand soda, try Blue Sky. I get it at the local health food stores (they carry it because it doesn’t have artificial flavoring). They make the best root beer I know, and their other flavors aren’t shabby either.
