Over in this week’s MMP thread, the topic of pound cake came up. Long story short, now I really want to make some. I’ve got a great collection of family recipes for all kinds of cakes, but not for pound cake. Can anyone here help? Any favorite versions you’d like to share?
This is my favorite recipe. Beware, though: The first time I made it, I followed the directions exactly and ended up with enough batter to fill a bundt mold **and **two loaf pans! I used at least half of what I baked to make a Christmas trifle.
NB: I was working from the actual cookbook and not this website!
I’m a purist. Pound cake is 1 lb of butter, 1 lb of sugar, 1 lb of eggs, and 1 lb of flour. Makes a giant bundt cake or a couple of rectangular loaves.
Look for a Sour Cream Pound Cake. My Very Southern Mississippi ex-grandmother-in-law made one to die for, as the saying goes.
Unfortunately, I lost the “perfect recipe” when my apartment in Alaska was flooded with raw sewage & ALL my cookbooks and interleaved recipes were destroyed.
