Favorite rainy day activities

We’ve had some wet weather here in Southern California the last few days. What do other Dopers like to do when the rain starts?
I’ve often liked to sit just inside and watch the rain; watch the glistening reflections in the street; watch bubbles and ripples form in the rose planter, which fills with water quickly; watch how people who must walk through the rain sometimes walk as if it isn’t raining, sometimes wear oilskins and scoot alonig as fast as they can, or slog through mud when they must.
In high school, in P. E., we’d play war-ball in the gym; boys would form two groups and throw volleyballs at each other. Pity the lone guy on one side, all his teammates up in the stands now, with a dozen or more opponents approaching him with volleyballs.
And what do you like to do in the rain?

In my younger days I used to stand in the rain, wearing only my army poncho and my GP boots, standing in a puddle with water p to my well-protected ankles

Nowadays I like to lie in bed, with the lights off, listening to the rain hit the tin roof. It’s a fantastic, relaxing sound.

Max

I lived in a hillside community and we kids liked to make paper or wooden boats and float them down the gutters. Hell, they’d go for blocks!

Hmm…

Nah!

We get about 12 feet of rain per year. Yes 144" or more. So we dont really have rainy day activities,if we did we’d never get anything done…

I like to drive in the rain and listen to Vangeles.

If it is cold and raining I like to eat chile and watch a movie. If it is hot and raining I like to sit on the porch and eat watermelon. Sometimes I like to nap when it rains. The absolute worst thing is to have to drive in the rain.

I was a lifeguard for many many years. No matter where I worked there were always a couple of 10 year-old boys that would show up at the pool at the crack of opening and stay until we locked the gate. During storms, the lifeguards and these two kids would sometimes play cards and answer the question… how much longer til the pool opens, every 3-5 minutes.

I like to play outside in the rain, if it isn’t too cold!

Read the SDMB. Duh.

Everything I do when it’s not raining. heck, I live in a rainforest (even if someone did cut down a lot of the trees).

Reading and listening to the Eurythmics.

When I was younger I spilled liquid soap on the driveway, then invited my friends over so we could skid our bikes sideways.

Nowadays, I merely practice or watch TV or both: Having lost a computer to a lighting strike, I shut it off at the mere mention of rain, almost.

hmm… if it rains I’m not that thrilled. But if it thunderstorms I’m in heaven. I LOVE a good thunderstorm. Having grown up where there were less than adequate storms, and having moved to where there are genuinely good T-storms, I must admit to a frankly unhealthy interest in nature’s most wonderful displays.

I went out with a guy once who thought that going for a long walk in the pouring rain was the best thing in the world. I now realize that he was right. Boy, do I miss him.

If it’s a cold rain, I like to get a blanket, a cat, a book, a cup of hot tea, and a munchie. Then sit in my papasan chair with everything and read til I fall asleep. (The chair is in front of the windows, so I can also watch the rain if I want to.)

If it’s a warm rain or warm weather, I like to go to the mall or shopping centers and stand in the parking lot puddle jumping. I think most people who are out shopping in the rain think that they might melt, and I like to prove them wrong. I also like to run past them and shake water onto them.

I have glass (not that plastic crap) skylights - early morning, snuggle down in the covers and drift off…

I would bet.
