I was going to mention the Phillies 1980s uniform as well. The team has brought them back to wear as a throwback on occasion, but they wear them at home! The powder blue uniforms were only meant to be worn on the road.
Wooohooo!!
The 49ers throwbacks this year are glorious. They even used an older version of the helmet logo. They’re referencing the Super Bowl season in 1994, and those uniforms were themselves throwbacks to 1955.
Those are, indeed, awesome uniforms. The 1994 versions were their throwbacks for the NFL’s 75th anniversary (note the patch on Steve Young’s shoulder in that '94 picture link), and as I remember it, the retro uniforms were so well-received that they opted to use them for much of that season.
Yeah, their current use is part of the NFL 100 season. The story I remember from '94 was that the team had some early-season struggles (Young was benched during a blowout loss to the Eagles), noticing that wins came while wearing the throwbacks and losses with regular ones, head coach George Seifert and the players petitioned the league to let them use the drop-shadow unis the rest of the year. It worked, they only lost once wearing them, week 17 while resting starters.
I think the current Seahawks uniform is the best in the team’s history (I even tolerate the radioactive version once a year) but seeing them suit up in the original uniform would sure make me nostalgic.
I have to take some umbrage with this. While I agree the 70s-80s powder blue unis are pretty cool, I’m a huge fan of the 90s-on jerseys and logo. I like the classic Phillies look over the “Me generation” version.
As a Philly fan, I’m not a supporter of the Kelly green “loser” jersey so many fans want to bring back, but I LOVE the old timey white helmets with the green wings. They scare me!
I notice in hockey, most older teams that try to introduce new logos eventually go back to their originals or at
least feature them on part of their jersey offerings. The Islanders, Capitols, Rangers, Sabres, Flames, Canucks, are among a handful of teams that tried doing this.
Oh, that has its place. Specifically spring training on the 17th of March.
Even in basketball, the Washington Wizards usually wear a jersey that looks like the Washington Bullets.
Oh, and as far as my favorites. The classic Winnipeg Jets jersey and the Quebec Nordiques jersey. The cities seemed quite exotic to me when I first started watching hockey. My cable company in Ohio picked up some Canadian channel so I saw a lot of Canadian teams back then.
