By fave character, I mean a fictional person (i.e., Pat, of “It’s Pat!”) or a real life person portrayed humorously by the cast of SNL (i.e., Phil Hartman playing Bill Clinton).
Okay, let’s get started. Mine?
Garth, of “Wayne’s World!” I LOVE Dana Carvey, he’s a little puppy. I just want to hold little Garth on my lap and cuddle him and stroke his hair. He’s so sweet.
My favorite Garth quote. “I came as Barney the dinosaur. I got my ass kicked.”
Well, you stole my second favorite character: Garth. Favorite quote is from the movie: “We fear change,” said as only Dana Carvey can say.
But by far, my favorite character has to be Steve Martin’s “Wild and Crazy Guy!” It’s me in ten years, I swear to God. I’ll even get an accent for no apparant reason. Lord knows I’ve already got the dance moves down.
I gotta agree with Wayne and Garth. I must have seen “Wayne’s World” more times than anyone should legally be allowed to see. “Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played girl bunny? Me neither. I was just asking.” Zoggie: Have you seen Dana Carvey’s HBO stand-up special? They used to play it on Comedy Central all of the time. I love it. My friends and I quote it every day.
Thank you, Dana Carveys HBO standup! I love you!
I swear, my friends and I also quote that show. I think it is pure qenious. I love the part when he is singing as his cat. It kills me.
Back to the OP. In the last ten years or so I’ve been watching the show (SNL) my two favorite characters have been Chris Farley as Matt Foley and Tim Meadows as Leon Phelps, The Ladies Man.
peace,
JB
FireUnderpantsBoobs- No, I haven’t seen it, but I’ll try to look out for it. It sounds great.
Although Garth is still my fave, The Ladies’ Man, The Continental (does anyone else find him kind of…appealing? ;)), and The Scottish Guy (“Ah, but what yeu’re describing is Irish, and we’re Scottish, now GIT OUT!!”) are all wonderful characters. And I really thought Dana was cute as Keith Partridge when they did the Partridge Family/Brady Bunch sketch, even though that wasn’t a recurring char.
I’m kinda liking the stoner character from Hampshire (“Hempshire”) College Jimmy Falon plays on his “webcast.” Especially after my mom suggested that I apply there!
I’ve also been a big fan of anything Chris Kattan does, besides Mango ([Homer Simpson]ugh…[/Homer Simpson]).
I also miss the guest appearances Al Franken used to make on the show.
[hijack]BTW, does anyone know what Molly Shannon is up to nowadays?[/hijack]
Count me in for The Anal Retentive (chef preferred).
But I have always stood alone out there, just LOVING Stuart Smalley. I think that character is so perfectly realized, and do incredibly true, that it is hilarious. And I will never forget stuart encouraging Micheal Jordan to be confident… Priceless.
And of course, the long gone but never forgotten ** Fops **, starring Mark McKinney as Lucien Callow. I LOVED those guys.
As you can see, I’m a bit out of the mainstream in my tastes.
Other notables:
Cirroc, the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer (it was so completely absurd, you had to laugh)
Billy Crystal’s “I hate when that happens” guy
Ed Grimley (although, like everyone else, I got sick of him)
Frankenstein, Tarzan and Tonto
Bill Murray’s Lounge singer
Mike Myers’ Simon
Mr. Mike (Micheal O’Donoghue)
Candy Slice ( Gilda Radner)
The Copier guy
The Sweeny Sisters
Darell Hammond’s Clinton
Ana Gastayer’s Martha Stewart, Cinder Calhoun and Katherine Harris (I love Ana Gasteyer)
Harry Caray (Will farrell)
and finally,
The Gals on Delicious Dish
Yes, the Delicious Dish skits are hilarious. My all-time favorite was the one with Alec Baldwin and his “Schwetty Balls”, but my 2nd favorite has to be the one where the guy got them to try the magic mushrooms. “Good times.”
My friends and I have been doing the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer schtick on each other for years. “Now, I’m just a simple caveman and your newfangled ‘automobiles’ frighten and terrify me, but one thing I DO know is that my client deserves no less than $2 million of punitive compensation and $1.5 million of psychological compensation! Thank you.”
God, I love SNL. It’s like the hometown team for me – even when they’re bad, I still love 'em. (And lately they’ve been great.)
Lately the HAVE been great… I have to say, that during the election and the post-election they were wonderful. And Al Gore explaining the ballots was possibly the single most hilarious thing I think I’ve ever seen them do. (And in case anyone forgets, I am a big Gore fan. It was still funny as hell.)
Ah, yes, Stuart Smalley. Who played him, anyway? I loved that guy. “I’m smart enough, I’m good enough, and doggonit, people like me.”
Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer rocked-
“I’m just an unfrozen caveman, your world frightens and confuses me- and I still don’t know why I should pay you for what we just did.”
“You always say that.”
A few more- obnoxious computer guy (I forgot his name), and the Bloater Brothers. Love that annoying laugh they do.
