Favorite song about cheaters/cheating

What’s that you have to say, Mr. Cohen?

Mrs. Robinson

Todd Rundgren’s song Fidelity from his album Nearly Human forgives a cheater.

An oldie, but a goodie:

Runaround Sue

Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

Torn Between Two Lovers

Hey Joe

**I Can Beat You Doing What You’re Doing Me
**(1933, I think)

Sample lyric:

I can beat ya doing what you’re doing me
It’s 50-50 mister from now on, you see
You’ve been going out calling most every day
but I have done the same while you were away

A couple of other Elvis Costello songs: “Alison” and “I’m Not Angry”.

Oh it’s so funny to be seeing you after so long, girl.
And with the way you look I understand
that you are not impressed.
But I heard you let that little friend of mine
take off your party dress.
I’m not going to get too sentimental
like those other sticky valentines,
'cause I don’t know if you’re loving somebody.
I only know it isn’t mine.

Ooh, I know what you’re doing.
I know where you’ve been.
I know where, but I don’t care,
'cause there’s no such thing as an original sin.

Human, by The Human League

Nobody by Sylvia

Snapshot by Sylvia

Those last two are practically the same song.

“Brilliant Disguise” by Bruce Springsteen.

Lovin’, Touchin’, Sqeazin’ by Journey

“'Cause he’s Loving, he’s touchin another
Now it’s your turn, girl, to cry
Na na na na na na…”

Just Walk On By

Dark End of the Street

Pale Blue Eyes–Velvet Underground

Excellent choice!

Gram Parsons: How Much I’ve Lied, We’ll Sweep Out The Ashes In The Morning (Gram writes or cowrites the best cheating songs. His delivery is so sincere and Emmy Lou singing backups.)

The Walker Bros: Make It Easy On Yourself (Cheating is more or less implied here. The Walker’s main singles are some of the best tunes written and performed. This might be a Burt Bacharach song.)

Dylan: Tell Me It Isn’t True (Nashville Skyline bounces back and forth between underrated and overrated. To me, it is another incredible album by the Man himself.)

Linda Rondstat: I Ain’t Always Been Faithful (My favorite female vocalist. Her 70’s work is divine. The thoughts here are a little complex. Just a great Pop song.)

VU: Femme Fatale (Nico is another female fave. Once again, cheating is implied. Simple Lou Reed poetry that gets right to the heart of the matter.)

Beach Boys: Wendy (I never thought a boy could cry, til you made it with another guy… this is the perfect cheating song by the BBs at their best.)

Alkaline Trio: Calling All Skeletons (This is about a girl who keeps “sneaking off” on the writer.)

Allman Bros: Just Another Love Song (Cheating is implied. A man and his child are hoping mom comes back. Dickey didn’t sing enough songs with them in their heyday imho.)

Descendents: Clean Sheets (This is a simple power pop song. The sheets on the bed are dirty because the bed has been shared with someone else.)

Them: Here Comes The Night (Van The Man at his best.)

Leonard Cohen: Everybody Knows (This song is NOT about cheating but has some good line about the subject matter:
Everybody Knows that you’ve been faithful,
Give or take a night or two…
Everybody Knows That you’ve been discrete,
there were just so many people you had to meet,
without your clothes…Everybody knows.)

Clapton’s Outside Woman Blues

And Robert Johnson’s From Four Until Late

Bob Kuban, The Cheater.

Look out
For the Cheater!

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
*“The problem is all inside your head”, she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I’d like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover *

Lips of an Angel - Hinder
*Honey why are you calling me so late?
It’s kinda hard to talk right now
Honey why are you crying, is everything okay?
I gotta whisper cause I can’t be too loud

Well, my girl’s in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on*

“Cheaters Never Win” by the The Love Committee:

Argh!!!

It is Johnnie Taylor, not JGW - I hate that!
