Favorite song remixes

They can be official or just created by people with too much time on their hands. What are your favorites?

Fatboy Slim’s “Body Movin’”, originally by the Beastie Boys. Far better, it changes a lot. It was used in the video for the song.

Fatboy Slim also does a pretty good one of Filter’s “Hey Man Nice Shot”.

A radio station once created a great remix of Celine Dion’s annoying Titanic song. Yes, great. They intercut dialogue from South Park into it, and it fit really well.

Finally, I’m really into the Christopher Walken version of Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice”. Walken is in the video for the song, which has sometimes been deemed the best video ever. So someone (I don’t know who) remixed the song with dialogue from Walken films. Among the highlights: it opens with him reading “The Raven” from “The Dead Zone”, plus his speech about “You know what God did to me? He threw an 18-wheel truck at me”. It’s also got his “tell the angels in heaven you never saw evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the man who killed you” bit from True Romance, and even the bit from the Simpsons where “he” reads Goodnight, Moon to a group of children and complains that they need to “scooch closer”.

Fatboy Slim’s remix of Pierre Henry’s Psyche Rock.

Broadcast’s remix of Badly Drawn Boy’s Another Pearl.

Can’t think of who did it, but on “The Sopranos”, when the cops are trying to bug the house, there is a great mix of Henry Mancini’s “Theme From Peter Gunn” and The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”. Works exceptionally well.

MC Sleazy’s bootleg of Missy Elliot’s Get ur Freak On/ The Strokes’ Hard To Explain is brilliant. top i say, top. The Van Halen’s Jump rejig of LHB’s No Transmission is excellent too.

The part in the Simpsons is actually Jay Mohr doing his Christopher Walken impression. Pretty good, if I say so myself.

My favorite remixes at the moment include:

Bruderschaft Forever (Colony 5 Remix) - Who would have thought adding a chord change in one place could improve the song so much?

Mesh Fragile (Mixed-Up) - Made it faster, harder, and louder. Excellent job.

VNV Nation Legion (Anachron) - Orchestral remixes rule.

VNV Nation Standing (still) - The perfect radio edit.

That’s all I can think of right now.

I figured it was someone else, hence the quotes in my OP. But yeah, that is a really good impersonation.

I love the Plankton Man dance remix of the Kronos Quartet version of “El Sinoalense.”

I’ve been meaning to mix Missy Elliot’s “Work It” with Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” but so far I’ve been too lazy. I bet it’s already been done though.

Somebody did a thumpa-thumpa dance remix of Julie Andrews singing Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music that I treasure.

The remix of Elvis Presley’s A Little Less Conversation… forgot who remixed it, though… anyone remember?

“The remix of Elvis Presley’s A Little Less Conversation… forgot who remixed it, though… anyone remember?”
Junky XL wasn’t it?

My favorite remix is Mathew Herberts take on Bring it Back(?) by Moloko, i reckon its better than the original!

the DJ shadow remix of ‘dolphins were monkeys’ by ian brown. an entirely new kick ass tune with browns vocals floating over the top.

as for the bootlegs, missy elliot’s ‘get your freak on’ over ‘love will tear us apart’ by joy division, and ‘without me’ by eminem over the BBC comedy ‘Only fools & horses’ theme tune kick the most arse to my mind.

C.R.E.A.M. by the wu tang clan over the top of the muppet theme tune is also a favourite

That’s made it to the UK has it? It’s made by a Sydney DJ called Dsico who does some really amazing boots. His site is here (hope the mods don’t mind - not sure of the legality of boots).

I agree - it’s a great remix. He’s also done one called Dirty Bottle, which is Christina Aguilera (Genie In A Bottle) vs Sonic Youth (Dirty Boots) and Block Rockin Woman (Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women Part 1 and Chemical Brothers’ Block Rockin Beats). He’s also done a nice glitch fuck-up of J-Lo’s “Jenny From The Block”

Kid606’s remix of NWA’s Straight Outta Compton is pretty good, too, and I’m liking the recent Röyksopp remixes of Coldplays Clocks and The Streets Weak Become Heroes.

Soulwax are responsible for a number of interesting remixes their excellent Too Many DJs album. One that springs to mind is Destiny’s Child’s Independent Woman mixed with 10cc’s Dreadlock Holiday.
