Favourite and most-hated social media platform

What do you like and hate about the various social media platforms? What do you use most and what do you ignore?

I’m fairly addicted to Twitter - it can be pretty vicious, but I like being able to follow people in the media, people can be very witty, and it’s where I get most of my breaking news and commentary on politics.

Facebook I have come to loathe - my friends just don’t really use it anymore, and the few that do tend to be the ones that like to share their inner most feelings through long poems and drunken midnight musings. Then there’s all the local groups - the fights between older locals who resent the incomers who have gentrified their beloved scruffy neighbourhoods, and the history groups that get all wistful over the grottiest old streets that were knocked down because they were hell holes, and who can’t stand anything built since 1962. I should really just delete it but can’t bring myself to cut the cord.

Instagram I don’t give much attention to because it’s basically a forum for showing off, and LinkedIn is dull as ditch water. I’m way too old to get into TikTok.

What say you?

Google Plus was the last platform that I would have ranked as my favorite. I loathe Facebook and only have an account because that’s how an organization I volunteer at posts events.

I’m on FB the most, with Twitter a close second. I have accounts but zero presence on the other major platforms.

I generally use Facebook and Twitter the most. Probably Facebook more. It’s a decent way to keep up with friends and family during the pandemic… and I learn so much about them. Like my parents just got their first Covid shot (which I’m glad for, but you couldn’t have WhatsApp-ed me).

Twitter is how I find out a lot of breaking news, especially regarding sports. Reddit is similar.

Instagram is fun to browse here and then. I barely use Snapchat, but the filters can be fun.

Oh… and I generally like SDMB

There are social media platforms other than SDMB? Since when?

Reddit, sdmb, imgur, discord. Facebook is the Walmart of social media. Hell, 4chan is better than fb.

Discord, bulletin boards, and google hangouts are my favorite social media. Hmm. There are a lot I don’t use. I’d guess I dislike some of those more than any of the ones I use.

I spend an embarrassing amount of time on Pinterest. You never know what strange rabbit hole you’ll fall into. One minute you’re sitting on the toilet looking at baked potato recipes for dinner tonight, the next, you’re scrolling past Hiroshima burn victim pictures and never want to eat again.

Facebook is mostly ads and a couple of friends posting political garbage.

Forgot about Pinterest. I use it for work (am a designer) and any inspiration for interior or garden remodelling I’m doing. I don’t use it for general browsing though.

My favorite for just sheer amount of flexibility and content is Reddit. I prefer the old Reddit site layout (which is still accessible) or the “Now for Reddit” app. They have subreddits devoted to so many things including dogs on roofs, pareidolia, all sorts of news, philosophy, technology, pretty much any TV show or band, etc. And if you want to create a subreddit that doesn’t exist, you can easily do so.

My least favorite is Twitter, followed closely by Facebook. I do not enjoy the people, content, or interface on either of those sites.
