Favourite covers of Beatles songs

It’s impressive when someone takes a classic Beatles song and dares to take it to another level. Or at least a different place: Santana, India.Arie, Yo-Yo Ma and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

Anyone got other examples?

Booker T and the MGs album McLemore Avenue was released in 1970 - it’s a collection of instrumental covers of songs from Abbey Road (released about 6 months earlier). Side two (two different links there) is on youtube - it’s far and away my favorite Beatles cover.

Great version.

Across the Universe by Fiona Apple
Tomorrow Never Knows by Junior Parker (Chemical Brothers used this as the intro to their last tour.)
Let It Be from the Across the Universe soundtrack
Here Comes the Sun by Belle & Sebastian

Grateful Dead have covered Tomorrow Never Knows amazingly. Also Hey Jude, but not as interesting.

I’ll throw this out for the 100th time. I never get tired of it.

I Will - Alison Krauss
Here There and Everywhere - Emmylou Harris
Here Comes The Sun - Richie Havens

Harry Nilsson’s cover version of “You Can’t Do That,” with snippets of about 20 other Beatles songs in it. The Beatles loved it.

Oh and let’s not forget She Came In Through The Bathroom Window.

That’s one of those songs that I had heard a million times before I even knew it was a Beatles song.

That’s great. I’m not surprised The Beatles loved it. He and John Lennon were close friends.

This. I like how the more things go to hell in the background, the more blissed-out Fiona looks!

I raise you one Jake Shimabukuro.

Ready for some Punjabi?

Cornershop - Norwegian Wood

Starts normal but expect it to get higher consciousness about 20 seconds in.

I don’t think it adds that much, but FWIW here he is with Tommy Emmanuel.

And of course, let’s not forget the big George Harrison Tribute with Prince doing his thing toward the end.

I really like the live version of Tomorrow Never Knows by 801.

A Day in the Life, as it might have been performed by Buddy Holly (actually Big Daddy)

Dear Prudence - By Siouxsie and the Banshees

Across the Universe as done by Laibach

Wild Honey Pie as covered by the Pixies

And yes, I enjoy the ethereal cover of Tommorow Never Knows from the Sucker Punch soundtrack

“Fool on the Hill”, Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 (showing my age here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzP-KvfC8QQ&feature=related

Tomorrow never knows - Monsoon. Would not normally be considered all that credible, but I think it fits in with their Guru days

Got to get you into my life - Blood sweat & Tears

Flying Lizards -Money.
Excellent .

In My Life by Jose Feliciano
