FBI is re-opening investigation into Clinton's email

Seem like the FBI director should be more forthcoming regarding the details of the investigation, etc. Being this close to the election.

Comey didn’t use the words “reopen” or “reopening” – that was Chaffetz. I would expect Comey to clarify shortly.

My hope is that they find no evidence of wrongdoing, and we can put this to bed for good. Then maybe the pubs will shut the fuck up about it.

I think it’s too close to election day, and the investigation will take too long, to have a serious effect on Hillary’s campaign. I hope I’m right.

My first thought was, “who did Trump pay off to make this happen?”. Then I read that there were emails found that were “pertinent” to the investigation.

The letter clearly states that investigators will be reviewing new emails connected to the prior investigation. That is “re-opening” in ordinary English. Does that word have some kind of technical definition in FBI investigations? If not, then I think that semantic battle is quite misguided.

Uh, can you explain where then that “Unrelated case” line comes from?, It seems that the FBI reporting that they are looking to see if there was confidential information that will affect someone else.

Nowhere does it mention that Clinton is the target again, just about the same moves made before to see if secrets were leaked and who was attempting to get it.

We should remember that the prior case was not really going to recommend to indict clinton, just looks like more of the same with the same with the same result.

Perhaps. In any case, Comey really needs to come out and explain what’s going on – if he says nothing more, then that’s just dropping a bomb 10 days before the election.

Every news outlet is reporting is as a “reopening.” Comey says they will “take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails…” And, “I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work…”

I’ll be shocked if anything significant drops before the election.

You think he’s just reporting that they’ve found something in an unrelated investigation and that they’re going to investigate it’s relevance to that unrelated investigation? That doesn’t make any sense. The only fair reading is that they are investigating it with respect to the Clinton investigation.

I agree. Though I think any further explanation could well be worse for Clinton.

Doesn’t really matter. If it’s just this and nothing more it could easily cost Clinton a point or so, which might be enough to matter in the Senate.

Wtf? The letter says they came across emails “in connection with an unrelated case” that “appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” Richard Parker is right; the semantics argument is silly.

Is the consensus that she didn’t do anything illegal, or that she did but it’s not worth prosecuting?

The unrelated case is almost certainly Podesta’s emails, right?

This may end up being a big deal or may not, but there is such a lack of detail that it’s impossible to say at this time.

Unless I hear something a lot more specific in the next 24 hours, I’m voting tomorrow anyway.

NBC is reporting that it is unrelated to the hacked emails.

Comey isnt playing politics with this - he dd not send a press release - he

“Comey said in a letter to eight congressional committee chairman that “recent developments” urged him to take another look.”

Its the ‘congressional comittee chairmen’ that are trying to influence the election with this - based on what little is in the news from the letter, this is SOP from the FBI wrt investigations the Congress folks may be aware of.

They don’t say what new emails have come to light, wiki-leeks or a private source or what they are.

If they are marked secret someone is in big trouble … who do you blame then Mrs Clinton?

I do think the semantics coming from Comey are the silly ones, unless he is willing to say that Clinton is the target this matter should had been not reported this way, because taking into account what did took place in the previous investigation this does seem to follow just the same path, it is important to find who got a hold of the information and the intent of the ones mishandling the information.

And I do not see this but to end as, once again, a good investigation to prevent issues like that from happening in the future and a goose chase for the Republicans that will waste again a lot of time and money.

I don’t know if it’s the concensus but at the time (at the press conference and hearings) Comey said that the mishandling, with the strictest reading of the law, could be considered illegal “no reasonable prosecutor would take this case” and that no one had been prosecuted before with this level of mishandling of information.

Based on that I may have to be less critical of Comey, it seems to then that it is basically a routine missive that has been grabbed by the Republicans and pumped up to be their talking point of the day,

I don’t know about you, but I’d blame the sender. If someone sends me classified emails, that’s on them, not me.
