Simply because someone is an attorney is no reason to presume them to be “trained obfuscators”. I know several lawyers who have devoted their careers to being champions of truth and justice. They’re easy enough to spot, they’ve got CostCutter haircuts, second hand cars, and one really good suit that they wear nowhere but in court.
And may the Godess bless them and hold them close to Her bounteous bosom all the days of their lives, amen!
Me. Ain’t nobody got time for both parents to be tied up in something as trivial as a haircut.
Back to the thread…
Of course the FBI is Trumplandia. It’s like people have somehow internalized the Hollywood version of the FBI instead of the FBI that tried to get MLK to kill himself. The FBI remains full of right-wing reactionaries who think some environmentalist extremists burning down a ski lodge is more important than right-wing militia violence, and whose idea of anti-terror work is to infiltrate mosques and try to goad people into saying inflammatory things.
We’ve come a long way, but you gotta remember where we started.
Aside: Remember The Usual Suspects? One of the supporting characters was a black FBI agent with a jazzy suit/hat combo and a goatee. I stared in amazement and wondered who the fuck wrote this scene?
Still one needs to rise in defense of the FBI who crushed the Klan in Mississippi. Saw the documentary.
Perhaps this is a sign that some at Fox News believe that Hillary will win, in spite of the attempt by many media folks to sell the “horse race” narrative.
If they do believe that, then they will be apprehensive about the precedent Comey has now set (for an openly-partisan FBI).
Even if a lot of the current FBI employees are right-wingers, eight years of a Democrat running Justice could, conceivably, change that. And if it’s considered acceptable, in the post-Comey era, for the agency to be an arm of a political party…that could be bad for the right.
Actually, AFIK, that 97% includes FBI. I don’t see them broken out seperately anywhere.
Pretty much every episode of Law and Order ever has one of two scenes: the one where one cop says that they think suspect X did it but his supervisor says they need more evidence, or the other where ALL of the cops say suspect X did it, but the DA says they need more evidence. And the cop gets pissed and slams the door or whatever. In a political case like this, it’s pretty easy to imagine a cops/FBI being told by bosses or DAs “nope, need more evidence,” and everybody suspects it’s the other guy being political. And odds are they’re both right.
So what’s the source of the smoke, then? Do she and her staff hit the bong at night? Does she hang out with pyromaniacs? What “smoke” are you talking about?
I think the right wing has accomplished its mission. They don’t have shit for evidence but the fact that we’re having the conversation about which entity is more politicized (the DoJ or the FBI) casts doubt on the entire system. If people lose faith in democratic institutions, then tend to view democracy as a failure and thus vote against its existence. Well done.
I’m sure that the jihadists within the republican party have convinced themselves that this is for the greater good, that this is just what needs to be done to cleanse the country of the Clintons, the Obamas, Sanders, the progressives. They won’t let it get too far out of hand, and in due time, when the country regains its senses, they’ll take a step back and let a more deserving electorate make its “choice.”
History suggests, however, when people start hijacking popular will, it rarely ends well. Ask Germany about that one.
Also, the last paragraph kind of cracked me up after HRC went around telling everyone the initial investigation was just a “security inquiry” before Comey said (paraphrasing here) “I don’t know what that means, we do investigations here.”
Again, innuendo from anonymous “sources” whom we know nothing about. And we should take these leads seriously…why? It’s really sad to see this because most people - democrats and republicans - have regarded the FBI as a respectable agency. But it’s clear that someone or some people have gone full-on Frank Rizzo as of late.
