So the “scandal” that had Republicans masturbating about for 9 days was nothing. If only Comey had kept his yap shut in the first place, we could have put this election to bed a week ago.
But then Comey’s “retirement fund” would not be so fullsome. I hope he got cash up front, rather than a promise to pay. Trump has recently stiffed his own polling company, so I would not count on him to pay his bills.

Yep–and that’s nine days’ worth of early voting that could’ve been affected due to this irresponsible behavior. Getting the news as late as the Sunday before the election is pretty frickin’ infuriating.
I hope Senator Franken gets his way, and there is a full Senate investigating into Comey and the FBI, as well as into the claims by Guliani that the Trump campaign was being fed information by current or retired FBI agents. At the very least, Comey has no control over his staff.
I would also call for a deeper investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence agencies.
They don’t actually read all of them, one by one. They process the files with software calibrated to find whatever could be evidence, and then examine what comes up.
But what does this letter even mean? Did he say they looked, and didn’t find anything? Did he say they haven’t looked yet, so nothing is different? Did they look at all 6 million e-mails, all of which contained the letter “c”?
So is Comey going to finish out the year or “resign” in a week or two?

The news accounts I’ve seen are saying the emails on the Wiener laptop were almost all duplicates of emails the Feebs had already seen.
So calling them ‘new’ emails initially was inaccurate. Comey is an ass.
There just wasn’t enough to work with.

I believe the thinking was “Well, enough damage has been done to Clinton, now let’s cover our ass with a couple days to go, and admit there was nothing there. When does my cheque arrive?”

It is very puzzling to watch this from afar - how could it be possible to tolerate the intervention directly by the security services in the election?
I wonder if all the voices in this thread confidently stating that there must have been something to merit the announcement will come back to acknowledge wrongness?

The Trump line, now being echoed by former Chief of the NYPD and director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is that Comey could not possibly have reviewed all these emails.
That is, of course, absolute tripe.
In fact, it should make you angry that idiots like these have held such high levels of responsibility.
So, to recap: the FBI finds the emails in late September or early October. They sit on their hands for at least two, if not three weeks. Then Comey sends the letter to Congress, despite not yet knowing the contents of the emails. Then the FBI gets the subpoena to actually open the emails. Now, 9 days later, he admits that there’s jack shit here.
I do not understand how Comey can possibly continue in his role after bungling this so badly.
