FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

What key piece of evidence will be withheld from prosecutors?

This is such BS. You want to tell me again that this judge assignment was random? She couldn’t even hold herself back from issuing this order on a federal holiday.

Maybe Barr, if he and trump kiss and make up?

Trump has been complaining about how unfair everyone is, because they won’t appoint a special master.

Well he can’t say that now. One of his main whines is gone.

And it won’t help him, at all. He is now in a worse position than before.

I’m all for it. Let the baby have his bottle.

From the same article:

In a 24-page ruling, the judge, Aileen M. Cannon of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida, also enjoined the Justice Department from using the seized materials for any “investigative purpose” connected to its ongoing inquiry of Mr. Trump until the work of the arbiter, known as a special master, was completed.

I guess the easiest thing will be to link to a gift link:

OK, I’m no lawyer, but it sounds like a delay and that’s all, right? The investigation is on hold until the special master completes the special mastery?

IANAL either, but I guess the tactic is called “in two weeks”. It is like nuclear fusion’s “in 30 years”, another way of saying as long as you can imagine, only later. Let’s see if he gets away with that too, or if the DOJ files a complaint and succeeds, and whether this will go all the way up to the SCOTUS, in four or five years time, by which time it may be moot, because TFG may be in a position to pardon himself and… aw, never mind.

So just long enough for him to announce he’s officially running in the 2024 election?

This judge is a complete and utter moron. Let’s try to parse this bit from her judgment:

“As a function of Plaintiff’s former position as President of the United States, the stigma associated with the subject seizure is in a league of its own,” Cannon wrote. “A future indictment, based to any degree on property that ought to be returned, would result in reputational harm of a decidedly different order of magnitude.”

Some of this gibberish isn’t even English. And none of it makes the slightest lick of sense.

  • “As a function of Plaintiff’s former position as President of the United States”?
Does this idiot even understand what the word “function” means? Where did she learn basic English skills?

  • “the stigma associated with the subject seizure is in a league of its own”
Yes, there is a “stigma” associated with breaking the law. No one should be immune from those consequences.

  • “A future indictment, based to any degree on property that ought to be returned, would result in reputational harm …”
Wait, how can Trump be indicted for “property that ought to be returned” – i.e.- items that were improperly seized? But if he’s justifiably indicted, why should he be protected against “reputational harm”? Aren’t there legitimate consequences for being a criminal?

  • “… reputational harm of a decidedly different order of magnitude.”
Different than what? WTF does this gibberish mean?

I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but I’m damn surprised he hasn’t done that already. That’s his get out of jail free card.

Also…

I once heard one of the morans actually call someone an “Antifa fascist”. These people are just oblivious.

Every time I hear them complain about Antifa, I’m reminded of something I saw years ago that said something to the extend of ‘for a group that denies being fascist, they’re sure scared of antifa’.

Maybe ‘antifa’ or ‘anti fascist’ was too obscure. If, instead of being antifa, it was ‘anti-nazi’, maybe they’d stop complaining about it. I mean, really, they could have neutered the antifa movement by joining in with them and condemning fascism instead of condemning those against fascism. Would they actually be stupid enough to denounce anti-nazis? And by ‘them’, I’m not just talking about the unwashed masses gathering in parking lots wearing swastikas. I’m talking about the politicians, on TV, trying to get elected. Those that have to appeal to more than just that group to get enough votes.

Maybe. Won’t stop the investigation, though.

More likely “anteefer”

I think he’s delaying the announcement because he’ll lose money. Being a candidate makes him subject to campaign financing laws, so he can’t put all the cash in his pocket.

Also, I assume he’ll get advance notice before an actual indictment is typed up and filed, and federal marshals drive to Mar a Lago with handcuffs.
.
And that’s all he needs–If he gets notified a day or two in advance he can organize a rally, and announce to an adoring crowd.: If it’s only a couple hours notice, he can announce on social media “I’M RUNNING”. .
And he will once again have escaped taking responsibility…as he has for his entire life.

And I think a legitimate argument can be made that he is immune, because you can’t arrest a sitting president , or a current presidentlal candidate* It will eventually be decided by the Supreme Court, and we know how that will go.
But by then Trump will be back in the oval office anyway.

*And it’s probably a good thing. Candidates need to be free to campaign. That’s how the system works. Imagine if Hillary had been indicted for her emails

The special master seems like a setback but at the same time, it takes that avenue of grievance away from Trump. The FBI has already sorted the documents into two neat piles: classified government documents that Trump stole and other miscellaneous crap Trump mixed in to try to confuse investigators. So go ahead, special master. Flip through the classified stuff to make sure a letter to or from one of Trump’s lawyers isn’t buried in there somewhere. It doesn’t change the facts and it can’t be dragged out forever. A delay of a couple of weeks isn’t going to save Trump here.

The order says that the Special Master is to evaluate the materials to determine which ones are to be returned to the America-hating fuckstick (and the basis of privilege for their return). Since they automatically can’t return the classified docs, can the DOJ withhold those from what they turn over to the Master?

First of all, I’d be surprised if they gave him any advance notice before slapping the cuffs on him. Why would/should they?

Second, so he declares his candidacy. So what? That’s no reason not to charge him. Let him run for office from his jail cell (without access to social media of any kind). It’s been done before.

Surely someone in the know would be a Trump guy, and I assume any Trump guy in that position would tip him off.

They’d not only have to be a Trump guy, but a Trump guy perfectly willing to torpedo their law enforcement career forever, just to tip off Trump, which would barely help him anyway. I expect that’s a rare combo.
