FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

Not uniformly. I think both Sen. Graham and Sen. Scott said nobody should rush to judgment and we should see what the warrant was for. And I don’t think McConnell has said anything.

ETA: Graham has since issued a stronger FBI = bad statement.

I so agree.

One of the reasons I think Garland may have bided his time in moving in a public-facing way is to make sure the leaders of these domestic terrorist so-called militias were somewhat neutralized. It won’t stop all the violence that is coming, but without leaders, it’s harder for the insurrectionist types to pull together in a cohesive way.

I fear there will be many lone wolf assassination attempts, though.

I’ve heard that the House Minorty leader is ripping on the FBI and the DOJ. There’s real leadership. Republicans are a cancer on American Democracy.

When ARE we gonna see what they found? I’m thinking it’ll tie into the Jan 6th committee in September.

I get the feeling the next hearing is going to make the previous ones seem tame, boring, and uneventful by comparison.

Also, it might get pushed out pretty far. They may have too much material right now.

At the trial.

I know there was some friction between DoJ and J6C over … transcripts of witness testimony (?) (that the J6C had and that DoJ wanted).

I would guess that DoJ has limited obligations to turn over the results of their investigation to the J6C.

Anybody know better than I on that one. Seems like it could impact (or not impact) timing of the next J6C hearings.

DOJ needs copies of the J6C’s transcripts so they can compare what was said by witnesses to the J6C against what may have been said by those same witnesses to DOJ/FBI during their own interviews.

Nothing will short circuit a trial like conflicting testimony to different investigators. Defense attorneys live for stuff like that.

Presumably they were looking through the documents while they were there. It doesn’t take 10 hours to remove 12 boxes, so there must have been some on site inspections going on.

I would assume that the correct read is either that they collected a variety of things from all over the building into 12 boxes, or that there were 12 boxes of documents that they took, along with a variety of other things which Trump’s people have chosen to not mention to the media;

On Truth Social, there are pages of thoughtful discourse on the role of ex-Presidents in society and the importance of law enforcement striking the appearance of balance in political cases, and the inherent difficulties they face…….JUST KIDDING!

Truth Social is what Truth Social always is, every thread is interchangeable regardless of subject, and every thread is about 2/3 pro-Trump memes and insightful comments like “TRUMP 2024 Forever!” and about 1/3 anti-Trump memes and insightful comments like “TRUMP IS A LOSER HA HA”. It’s boring af, as always.

We also don’t know what “breaking into the safe” means. It could be a staffer calling Trump and getting permission to open it. But it could have also been a long process if they truly had to crack it. Reportedly, a “safe cracker” was brought in. For all we know, the 10 hours could have been 9 hours of waiting for the safe cracker to arrive and 1 hour of collecting and inventorying documents.

So it’s like reading the graffiti on the inside of a public toilet stall.

I’m sure folks hoped it would be more reactive than that. You can’t get the other side’s perspective if nobody is really giving one.

In a very stupid bar.

My guess is that the DOJ know American law better than some random British bloke on the internet.

Not one but two Trump lawyers were on TV today suggesting that the FBI may have planted evidence.

Sounds like they’re trying to get out in front of something.

The ladies doth protest too much, methinks.

I’ll just note, again, that a lot of the news about what the FBI was searching for and what was discovered seems to have come from Mrs. Bobb and, possibly also, Eric Trump. There’s some chance that none of the news about the raid have come from the law enforcement side of the affair.

I know we have a freedom of speech, of sorts, in this country. I take it that it is not illegal to accuse the FBI of planting evidence.
(I know that if I were the FBI, I’d be overtly defensive, and offensive too, about such an accusation. I mean, it’s my reputation on the line.)

To my knowledge, there’s been no statement of any kind. Certainly no press conference. They just continue to go to work.

This is just one step forward…
