FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

Yes and no.

Yes, because they want to keep this process moving along to a conclusion for these documents.

No, because the classified materials are exempt and DOJ has been allowed to go forward with both prosecuting their case and doing the damage assessment to national security. They are not slowed down. The documents themselves are in the custody of DOJ and are safe. The ones subject to this review by Trump are most likely going to be given to the National Archives after the review is completed.

The purpose of the review is for Trump to state which items he believes are his personal property and exempt from submission to the National Archives, and/or which items he believes were “planted” by the FBI. I don’t expect him to be able to make successful claims on either count.

This is why the special master is a sideshow. (A fun one, as it has turned out!) The DOJ had already segregated all the documents into their various piles and done the reviews. They just want to get on with the national security damage assessment and the prosecution. Nothing the special master is doing will slow that down.

Because Judge Dearie ordered them to do so.

No later than September 23, 2022, the parties shall agree upon a contract with a document review vendor that will host the Seized Materials in electronic form.

There’s more than just secure file sharing going on here. The two parties involved have an adversarial relationship. It makes sense to use a trusted third party as a go between.

IIRC the filing said the DOJ has 5 approved vendors that they recommended, but none of them wanted the business. DOJ thought they could convince one of them, but needed more time.

I think the tweet headline used ‘create’ as in create a ‘folder’ in the portal for this case.

NONE of the potential venders want to be part of the shit storm that Trump will start. That’s his entire business model.

I don’t blame them.

Agreed. I think it is more than the fear of not getting paid – although I’m sure that’s a concern too.

Exactly. When the indictments come in, Trump will accuse everyone in sight of conspiring against him, and this vendor’s name could become the next Dominion on RWSM. Who needs that noise?

Especially after Dominion has already received all assets as payment after winning their lawsuit.

Well, sure, but I bet Dominion wishes they’d never had their name turned into a right-wing hate meme in the first place. A small document-processing vendor might not survive long enough to win any lawsuits.

I’ve fallen behind current events a bit. What’s the status of the full appeal regarding Cannons initial ruling? Jurisdiction, need for SM etc.

Well, if they win and get paid what they are asking for (the first seems likely, the second much less so (blood/turnips, etc)) that would be much more net profit then they likely could have ever earned from their business.
That said, I agree on both counts.

Individual 1’s legal team say they can’t meet the court’s deadline for releasing all of the documents because they can’t find an IT vendor that can digitize all of the documents by the deadline. Maybe it’s more like they can’t find an IT vendor that will work with them, knowing their history of not paying.

I think it’s more likely that they don’t want to get caught in Trumps ‘blame game’ shit show that is sure to follow.

There are so many reasons for a vendor to not want to work with Trump that there’s no reason to pick just one.

I’d require that they give me a cashier’s check for 150% of my estimated cost, and then refund them the difference when done.

Former Florida Solicitor General Chrism Kise demanded $3 million .up front, but even after that, he’s backing away.

$3 million sounds an awful lot like what someone in Trump’s position would have to put up in bail if he was charged. Maybe Kise’s sole job is to make sure Trump doesn’t have to spend a single second longer in custody than absolutely necessary.

The people would like to appoint a special master to review the bail amount and conditions. It should take approximately two weeks to complete during which time Mr Trump will remain incarcerated.

Brilliant!

They asked for a delay in the proceedings because they can’t get a vendor to do the job. I’m sure they’re looking really hard to find someone.

They looked under the coffee table, behind the couch, under the couch cushion; couldn’t find a vendor.
