I thought it was a fair comment. Sure, judges don’t normally propose orders for others to send their way, but there is no reason to think this judge wouldn’t. Suppose it worked and her tactic delayed things enough that charges are never brought and El Schmucko winds up getting that second term after all. That puts Cannon on the Supreme Court. There is no use to trying to find the bottom to the GOP barrel, there is none. All customs and traditions are sacred when the Democrats are in power and to be ignored when Republicans get a chance to do so.

I thought Trump’s lawyers didn’t even do the paperwork correctly, but Cannon helpfully pointed that out and granted the rulings they wanted anyway.

As posted earlier, here is the Motion filed by Trump’s lawyers which started the process in front of Judge Cannon, in which they specifically asked for the appointment of a special master:
The opening lines of the Motion state:
President Donald J. Trump (“movant”), through his undersigned counsel, respectfully files this Motion For Judicial Oversight And Additional Relief, which seeks an Order that: (a) appoints a Special Master;
They repeat that conclusion on p. 21 of the Motion.
The entire document makes the argument for a Special Master, arguing that the FBI taint team is not sufficient to protect the confidences of a former President.
I’ve not found anything about the Judge suggesting the form of the order?
Returning to the report of further classified documents being found, I know I shouldn’t be surprised but… Trump hired a firm to search his own properties to see if he had - uh - misplaced anything?
That doesn’t exactly inspire great confidence in the control of classified documents.

And responding to Treppenwitz’s point, and that of many (most?) of the posters in this thread, if he HAD JUST DONE THAT WHEN ASKED he would likely have dodged all of the legal headaches from this.
I was more under the impression that his lawyers, sick and tired of being caught flat-footed, hired the outside firm.
Wait a minute. Trump and his lawyers go apeshit about the FBI taking stuff that was so secret they had to bring in special people with the right clearances to even begin to examine it and then they go and hire an outside firm with no clearances whatsoever to go look for more docs??
