FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

It was. I have a feeling Trump is going to regret having made this a public issue.

Yes, short, professional, and clarifying the key procedural points, as well as supportive of the FBI agents.

Short thing defending himself and his people from Trumpworld.

Now we get to see if Trump opposes the motion to unseal the warrant.

What? You think he’s going to fight this? Won’t its release prove how he is an innocent who is the subject of the biggest witch hunt in history?

“Help me, Obe-Roy Cohn-obe. You’re my only hope.”

Okay, what did he say?

I was at the dentist.

I haven’t been following everything in this thread, but Trump’s secret service was notified in advance that a search warrant would be executed at Mar-a-Lago hours before the “raid” happened.

Per NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, “The FBI notified the Secret Service that a warrant would be executed. The Secret Service facilitated access to the Florida Trump property as fellow federal agents but did not take part in investigation or search”.

Basically:

a) He (Garland) approved the search

and

b) Since Trump made it a big issue, and his attorneys are talking about the warrant’s contents, DoJ is moving to have it unsealed, unless Trump disagrees

with a short dressing down of those that are accusing the DoJ and FBI of improper behavior and/or threatening them with violence.

It was very short and sweet.

He opened his statement by saying that the DOJ had just filed a motion with the court to release the unseal the warrant, which will also include the listed of what they expected to find and what crime they asserted the evidence would support.

He then went on to say that he, Garland personally, approved the execution of the search warrant at Mar-a-Lago.

The rest of the short statement was to say that he would not stand by while DOJ/FBI personnel were being unfairly maligned and attacked.

That was about it.

ETA: Ninja’d by very-fast-typist @Jas09! Well done!

So, how long can it take a court to decide whether or not to unseal the warrant? Because you know trump will fight it, telling his base it’s not because he’s done anything wrong but just because it violates his privacy (and to pwn the libs). We talking 10 years?

No, it will be comparatively quick.

Probably within 2 weeks. (Strike the irony.)

Thanks, y’all. For Garland to break his silence I call quite remarkable. He must be seriously pissed!

He appeared to be. For Garland.

They’ll give Trump about a week to respond, and then DoJ another week to respond to that (if necessary), and then a ruling. Probably 2 weeks, like @Aspenglow says.

Unless Trump decides to allow it’s release, which Ha! I think it’s pretty clear that Garland knows that Trump doesn’t want the warrant released.

I’ll update my previous - there was one other minor (but possibly important) part of Garland’s statement:

Basically that the relevant government parties felt that it was “not possible” to acquire the documents without executing a search warrant.

Already the Fox News line is “but what about the affidavit???” So that will probably be the new spin.

oh yeah, all capital letters. cold and precise.

Thanks, to you and @Aspenglow. I was imagining this matter having to slowly and painfully wind its way up to the compromised Supreme Court. Because I can’t imagine trump not fighting it.

I am a bit confused about how much can be unsealed if there’s Top Secret stuff in there that couldn’t even be publicly listed.

ETA: What affidavit?

That’s going to be the most damning document. But I think we’ll have to wait awhile for that. They’re crazy if they want that disclosed.

The request to unseal specifically mentions a “redacted” receipt of items taken. So it won’t say “Top Secret designs of F-35 Radar” - just “X Boxes of Classified documents.”

The supporting affidavit which was presenting to the judge to convince him to sign the warrant. Basically the document stating why they felt that a warrant was the only means to gather the evidence they were after, and why they have reason to believe the documents are present where the search is to be held.

It would include any information about sources, informants, etc as well as the status of whatever criminal investigation is being pursued.

It will not be released unless there is an indictment or perhaps after the investigation is closed without indictment if the target requests it to be unsealed.

IANAL, just my understanding.
