FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

It’s a legitimate debate. It’s been argued that at the time of the drafting an “officer” of the United States was understood to be appointed positions like cabinet secretaries and ambassadors. It’s also noteworthy that for all of the positions the amendment specifically identifies, it conspicuously omits the President.

Hence the “cute” form of water (voda) is “vodka”.

Just spotted this while surfing for more news:

Thing is, this ABC News item specifies the charges:

No idea if these are, in fact, the charges—they could be ABC News’s guess, and I cannot find confirmation elsewhere. But based on what we know, they seem reasonable under the circumstances.

I agree, but it doesn’t explicitly exclude the president. I suspect that this would be an issue that would need to go in front of SCOTUS if it comes to it.

Would that be per document and per statement? The mind boggles.

I seem to recall team trump floating plans to sell swag featuring a mugshot if it were to happen. So I’m going to guess “immediately.”

I don’t think he will be provided with a copy. It’s the property of the DOJ.

Which isn’t to say it won’t leak… it probably will, but Trump will have to wait for the leak to happen first. And I agree he’ll try to monetize it if he can. He has no shame.

Taking government property is what got him in trouble in the first place.

Cue a copyright case? This one could run and run.

Excuse me. If you’re going to shove a hand up my ass to make words come out of my mouth like Charlie McCarthy, do me the courtesy of treating me to dinner and a movie first. Please do not issue blithe statements that liberals do not recognize treason when it occurs.

Oh, like FoxNews would put a rainbow onscreen…

To be embarrassed, one must be capable of feeling shame.

So were the Rosenbergs.

This is a good point. Also, when Trump actually won the presidency, he did fine despite being outspent 2-1. He only lost when his campaign had the money to bombard Americans with obnoxious TV ads. But the idea that money doesn’t help in politics is a bit extreme, so I thought I would mention fundraising as one way indictment helps Donald.

Unlike today, we were in a congressionally declared war. But having the government overrule the decision of the voters was nonetheless a low point for American democracy.

And one of them actually did something seriously wrong.

When you start accusing people of disloyalty, emotions run high and justice tends to be downgraded.

We have somewhat stronger safeguards against injustice than in past centuries, so I’m not seriously worried about Trump being kept off a ballot, or a Democratic loser of a presidential race being certified as the winner. I am more thinking that if Trump can run on the issue of whether people should be allowed to vote for their chosen candiate, and have the winner take office, then Trump gets more votes.

One of the best issues to fight Trump on is that he’s a sore loser who opposes using democracy to select the president. I wouldn’t throw that away.

“Think of Donald Trump as an overpriced carnival.” - New York Notorious (1992)

“Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends.” - Emerson, Lake and Palmer

It’s no different than setting up a GoFundMe to help your friend after their house burned down and then keeping all the money for yourself. You just want the money and this “cause” is a perfectly good way to trick people into giving it to you.

They say he donated to charity, but I want to see the receipts. The long form receipts. And even if he did, he more than made up by charging the government for his SS hotel rooms, golf cart rentals, meals at his facilities, not to mention all the grift from those trying to get favorable treatment from him.

You mean, like giving top secret information away to foreign countries? Conspiring with other countries to commit acts of war against the US? Things like that?

I don’t know if it’s OK to ask for this here.

But I have zero photoshop skills.

I’d sure love an image of Trump in a prison jumpsuit with prison tats on his arms and face.

I’m thinking he’ll join the Latin Kings, because, irony.

Are you referring to Nixon (Paris peace talks), Reagan (Iran hostage crisis), or Trump?

Has anyone seen any updates on the Mark Meadows “immunity for testimony” aspect of this? I haven’t heard a peep about that since the indictment story broke everywhere.

Including an Iron Man tattoo because iron-y.
