I’ve heard, but cannot confirm, that it is scheduled for 3:30 pm Eastern time.
I understand, and we’re in a Mar-A-Lago thread.
I just always feel the need to remind myself and others that making this indictment the first rather than only is critical. Especially against the people who assume that he can wriggle out of anything.
12 “swaggering, overconfident people who don’t examine their own thoughts and beliefs?” would certainly give Trump a jury of his peers.
One additional issue that concerns me with Cannon being the judge is her abuse of her judicial disscretion in determining what is “relevant” evidence that the defendant can introduce. Trump clearly wants the trial to be a circus, and Cannon can certainly make that happen.

Apparently Cannon is not going to handle the arraignment, but might handle the rest of the case.

Having magistrates handle arraignments is pretty common in federal court. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

My view is that the publicly available evidence appears to show that the prosecution should have a slam dunk. If the prosecution isn’t able to present a strong case (or if the defense is able to reasonably explain or discredit the publicly available evidence), I’m going to assume that the public impression isn’t accurate and that the case is much weaker than I has originally thought.
I mean, I’m pretty sure OJ killed his wife but the prosecution absolutely screwed that one up and I can’t say I wouldn’t have acquitted him.
Thankfully, it’s quiet outside the courthouse so far. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

I will predict no large protests today. I think Jan 6th filtered out the vast majority of Trumpers willing to make real personal sacrifice for Trump.
Unfortunately, I think lone wolf incidents remain a real possibility.

I’m not giving Judge Ito a pass either. He was a complete shitshow; deer-in-the-headlights, celebrity watcher, wannabe.
That’s why I fear Cannon. I don’t think she’s been “educated” by the appeals slapdown. Perhaps pissed. I believe she’s like the evangelists, “Sure DJT is a complete pile of shit; but look what the good he’s doing.”

And I agree that it’s not really in doubt, but if a defense is being completely thorough they might file a motion to address the issue, since there’s a part of the indictment that strongly implies that she (or, if not, some other immediate family member) was texting about not having room for the boxes on the family flight to New Jersey.
