Any word on whether they had tears in their eyes?
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
At this point it wouldn’t surprise me if a few big law firms have reached out to him and he turned them down because he would rather have all this chaos instead of a good lawyer that would actually attempt to keep things moving forward. I could certainly see him considering this to be part of his campaign.
I think the next person to interview him needs to ask about the campaign/trial mix up and why he’d turn down the biggest lawyers.
But only because we all know it doesn’t take much to get him started and he’ll happily tell us what the actual meaning was, because he needs everyone to know how smart and clever he is.
Trump sure seems proud of the immense amount of republican tears he’s caused.
I don’t believe it for a second. Big law firms typically don’t do criminal defense, even high level “white collar” stuff. Also, they shy away from controversy. Third, they like to get paid, on time. Finally, despite the popular belief, lawyer don’t typically reach out to potential clients and offer their services. Solicitation can be done, but there are ethical restrictions about how it can be done.
I agree that it’s BS for all the reasons you list, except possibly the last one. A lawyer who would work for Trump has a slightly different relationship to ethics than your typical lawyer.
One of the smartest lines I’ve read (somewhere) said that while he’s complaining that the purpose of his trials is election interference, it’s actually true that the purpose of his running for election is trial interference.
That seems to be his only real strategy: go to trial, get his supporters riled up, commit whatever frauds he needs to commit to get elected President again, and then pardon everyone, including himself, who committed various frauds on his behalf. That’s it.
Divorced?
Let’s be kind and say estranged.
Consciously uncoupled.
You forgot about the biggest reason to not believe it for a second. Trump said so.
For whatever reason, this reminded me of a call my wife, who is a lawyer, recently received from a lawyer who had been retained my my wife’s sister. The sister has a long history of - um - not the most stable behavior, has been involved in considerable litigation, and has long spoken ill of attorneys. My wife and I found it amusing to hear the atty discuss how he insisted on receiving his retainer fee up front, and that sister had attempted him to talk him down on that fee.
What about those lawyers who used to have ads that took up the whole back cover of the phone book? Back when there were phone books… another hallowed tradition gone!
THOSE guys would call trump with tears in their eyes (and maybe their ears, from layin’ on their backs) and beg to represent him.
Still relied on the potential client phoning up that number on the phonebook.
Especially if it’s Dan Quayle.
The trial is the campaign.
Legal stuff happens, adjourned for the day, DJT and talking head/chief distractor Alina Habba take to the courthouse steps, "UNFAIR, WITCH HUNT, HUNTER BIDEN, EMAILS, GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER, USUAL DOG WHISTLES. All this hogwash covered breathlessly by the assembled media. Forget Joe Biden; the other shameless Republican pretenders won’t be able to catch their breath let alone get a word in edgewise. Dominate the news with lies. He’s never answered for them before, why should he care now!?
Strong chance an ordinary Federal judge would not take kindly to being slammed/having orders ignored. Loose Cannon? Man,I don’t have much hope - a real passive way to aid DJT by ignoring his daily diatribes.
Has Trump insulted Judge Cannon? I thought one of his “Truth” social posts referred to her as unqualified or something like that.
Then I predict that his campaign will sink like a lead balloon.
What seemed to capture people’s attention the first time was that he voiced their grievances. If this time around it’s all about how bad he’s being treated, it just won’t resonate with as many people as before.
I dunno. Seriously.
My sense of, well most even modestly accomplished people, is that they have egos. They want respect. Fairly few are really driven by dedication to a cause willing to be publicly humiliated for what they believe is a greater good.
She’s no idiot and knows there is no reward waiting for her in return for toadying to tuchas Trump.
This is history being made and she is likely very conscious of that.
Hmmm… I wonder how Loose Cannon would feel if tRump’s Truth Social account were to suddenly start spouting off about how unqualified she is and “the one reason she’s on the bench is because I put here there, at her request,” and other little bon mots. She might not be so inclined to look the other way regarding his shenanigans.
I mean, posts on Truth Social could come from…anyone.
Judges are accustomed to being given respect; it comes with the job. Having gone too far for Trump once and been publicly humiliated by the Circuit Court of Appeals, I think it’s at least possible that she’s not eager to walk into the buzz saw again.
Smith has put in for a trial date of dec. 11. A reasonable amount of time for defence to get clearance.
