For this guy to crawl as far up Trump’s backside as Nauta did suggests he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He may still believe everything Trump tells him.
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
I feel sorry for Nauta. In a sense, he embodies Trump’s Million MAGAt March, disaffected whites who have a vague sense that they’ve been screwed by “them” --the faceless deepstate elites who want to overturn what 'Murica has always been about (though they can’t define it, and tend to get tangled up whenever they opine on it for more than a few seconds). So they latch onto a dopey savior, because that’s much easier than actually, you know, thinking about this stuff in a rigorous way. Should they be punished for being shallow morons? I’d say “They’re being punished enough” but that doesn’t cut it as far as discouraging others to join them or encouraging others to think before they join a cult. This poor fucker needs to spend a decade or two in prison, just as an example if nothing else.
I think that’s it. He needed to have a Florida lawyer.
Which makes you wonder why it took three weeks.
Took a while to find someone willing to take an IOU from a Trump PAC
“Really! We pinky swear to pay you! And your career Definitely won’t turn to shit after this!”
It’s not a mere formality. Even if the other lawyers will be doing the heavy lifting at trial, she is the counsel on record, and potentially at risk if there is lawyer or client misconduct during the course of the trial. I can understand why lawyers would be reluctant to take the case, especially if there is a concern that Trump is pulling the strings behind the scenes, through the PAC that is apparently funding the defence.
I sort of do too. Did he have a clue what was going on at the time? His employer asked to move boxes a few times.
Why would he then feel the need to lie about it to the Feds?
It’s hard to feel sympathetic towards someone who, of their own free will, went to work as Trump’s right hand man.
I think because his great friend, and leader, and persecuted God assured him it was the only right thing to do.
I know, but I said I feel sorry for him and I do
I’ll never not be gobsmacked about the number of people willing to destroy their lives and reputations for this guy. It just doesn’t make any sense. His power over people is not of this Earth.
Exactly.
It’s the same “power” that con men (and women – let’s face it, this is one of those endeavors with virtually no gender gap) have used for centuries: the ability to entice the mark with rewards far beyond what they could normally get, then laying down relatively simple steps to getting there. It plays upon inherent weaknesses in the mark, regardless of background, education or even intelligence.
It’s a simple-sounding idea…it’s the application that takes true talent. One that the Mango Mussolini appears to have in abundance.
It’s,
- A CHA score of 20 that,
- must only apparent in person because I’m sure not seeing it in videos.
What’s CHA?
In person or on video doesn’t matter. Either you have the mentality of a mark, or you don’t.
Dungeons and Dragons Charisma score on a scale from 3 to 18 for most humans.
Charisma
Charisma measures your ability to interact effectively with others. It includes such factors as confidence and eloquence, and it can represent a charming or commanding personality.
Charisma Checks
A Charisma check might arise when you try to influence or entertain others, when you try to make an impression or tell a convincing lie, or when you are navigating a tricky social situation. The Deception, Intimidation, Performance, and Persuasion skills reflect aptitude in certain kinds of Charisma checks.
Bolding mine.
20 is god-like.
I’ve been comparing Trump to the Mule for years, but the D&D analogy works, too.
Unlike the Mule, Trump unfortunately isn’t sterile.
Here is my 2-bit psychoanalysis of Nauta.
Nauta Joins the Navy and gets assigned to the president of the United states, a plum assignment. He’s used to following orders from those in command and is star struck by Trump. He’s the president after all, the ultimate superior. He does a good job of being obsequious, anticipating Trumps needs and bringing indiet cokes in lickity split. So Trump likes him, treats him relatively well, maybe shows him a few perks now and then, and he starts looking up to Trump. Putting it another way, Nauta is groomed. When Trump asks him to hide the documents, he just does what he’s told without thinking about it. That’s his job.
Now when the shit hits the fan, who can he turn to other than Trump himself. Trump tells him that he’ll be fine, the charges are political bullshit, he did nothing wrong and will be found completely innocent.
“I’ll hire you the best attorneys in the business. Just stick with me, keep your mouth shut and don’t talk to the DOJ and this will all blow over.”
Meanwhile Trump keeps Nauta on a short leash so no one can get to him to tell him the real situation, makes it clear to Nauta’s attorney that he works for Trump not Nauta, and decides how best to throw Nauta under a bus for his own benefit.
So I see Nauta as more a victim than a perpetrator.
Just following orders generally doesn’t fly far. It might get for a good deal if you come clean but …
