FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

I didn’t. But I’ll add that making a motion for a directed verdict is SOP, at least in civil matters I’ve been involved with. The plaintiff rests, the defense moves for a directed verdict, the motion is denied, the defense then presents its case, and life goes on.

I’m sure that Trumpists will make something of this, along the lines of, “This denial proves that the judge is biased,” but that just displays their ignorance. Directed verdict motions are made every day in every courthouse everywhere, and IME, the vast majority of them are groundless, and thus denied.

ETA: Oops, just noticed that this is the Mar-a-Lago documents thread. I was commenting on the directed verdict in the NY civil matter thread. Well, if the post needs moving, Mods, then please move it.

Awwww, Man. Yeah. I blew that one.

@Aspenglow : I’m just going to repost that part and link in the appropriate forum.

Consider it a preemptive strike for when the motion for directed verdict gets filed in the documents case, which of course it will be.

this is easy! Trump will pardon himself.
What? Are you whispering something about state charges not subject to presidential pardons? So what? Trump will write himself a pardon anyway.

After all he is king president, and he can do whatever he wants.
Maybe the supreme court will rule otherwise, but they will wait several years before grudgingly hearing the case, and then wait a year or two more before actually issuing their ruling. Trump will be 85 years old, and will have had ample time to buy a nice vacation dacha in Russia to retire to.

and dead for several years.

Can you imagine the mess if he declares himself President for Life then kicks it? The three kids fighting over who takes over will make Game of Thrones look like a doddle.

With any luck, when he dies, we’ll find that the kids won’t be able to maintain this level of notoriety.
I don’t know that any of them have the, for lack of a better word, charisma that he does. If any one of the kids were to run for office, I don’t know that they’d be able to get people to blindly follow them the way dad always could.
This, of course, makes the assumption that he doesn’t actually find some way to become president and make sure his presidency is handed to one of his kids when/if he dies in office.

I’d be surprised if there’s another [elected] Trump in politics any time soon. As for private sector dealings, I could see that going either way, but it’s not likely to have any real effect on the rest of the citizens of the US one way or the other.

If shamelessness and a willingness to display one’s vacuity in public are inheritable, then there’s no reason his kids couldn’t carry on the family tradition. Really, is there any actual ability that Trump has shown you that requires other talents than those two?

Yes, charisma. It takes more than lack of shame and a willingness to act like a moron in public to become president.
Imagine if Trump never got [back] into politics and it was one of the kids running for office in 2016. Do you think any of them could have won? And even if they did, could they have done it on such an extreme platform? Or is it more likely that they would have done a handful of rallies and TV spots that didn’t go anywhere before deciding this isn’t for them?

Things are a bit different than now since they’ll be able to coast on the Trump name for a while. But maybe they’ll also realize that their legal problems might be easier to deal with if they weren’t in the public eye.

In any case, regardless of my reasoning, in the end, I think after he dies the kids will slink back off to wherever they came from.

I too suspect this will be the case. Following the NY State civil fraud trial disgorgement case and the associated appeals, we’re likely to see the Trump family unable to do business in NY and their finances and reputation decimated by a multi-hundred million dollar judgement. Ivanka may crop up on the public radar once in a while, but I doubt seriously any of the sons will be heard of again in the aftermath of their father’s presumed downfall.

I predict the news: Eric will get picked up by Social Services wandering around in a Wallmart parking lot, trying to work out how to exit. Don Jr will get arrested on drug charges. Ivanka will have a “stolen” sex tape revealed.

The end of their flash in the pan fame.

Why not have Don Jr. with the sex tape?i’d be much more unsurprised by that development. Ivanka is much too careful with her image. She’s actually taken steps to get away from Daddy’s shadow, however small they may have been.

Yes, Ivanka can hide under the Kushner family money. She’s not as dependent on Trump businesses as Don Jr and Eric are. The whole intertwined business empire could close tomorrow and she’d be fine. The boys would be utterly screwed, though.

Since he’s told us (the US) he’s going to abrogate the Constitution when he gets back into office – probably the first thing – what makes you think there’ll be any campaign to ‘run’ in? You can’t be President for Life if you have to keep persuading those pesky voters every four years.

“Don Jr., Eric it’s called a job. Not that anyone would ever hire you.”

When the DJT ‘empire’ collapses, Don Jr. and Eric will immediately turn to Ivanka. Putin would of of course just give them a uniform and send them to the front.

the prosecution has put in a motion for scheduling a section 5 hearing. judge cannon issued a paperless order denying the motion. basically, see you on march 1st.

a section 5 hearing is in regard to classified documents being used by defence.

scheduling can not be appealed.

Glenn Kirschner on one possible work around to get this televised. Some law that says “Victims may not be excluded from the court room.” I’m linking in the middle but the whole thing is a good watch.

Aileen Cannon May Have Just ‘Screwed’ Donald Trump: Legal Analyst

I’m not endorsing this link in toto. But the last bit sounds correct.

Brain-bleach, please! Stat!

Isn’t the whole point that Cannon is not actually delaying the trial, but just pushing back pretrial deadlines? I’m sure she’ll eventually push the trial back, but for now she’s holding the date open.
