FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

It was kinda both, my friends. A reminder that this date hasn’t been settled and a play on the two weeks meme. But, as far as I can tell, this court date is… still on the docket?

I don’t know if she can do this but it would not surprise me at all if Cannon said “well, since we have a conflict with the trial going on right now I guess we’ll have to reschedule this one for a year from now.” Or maybe she can tactically reschedule to block any other trials from going forward before the election while she sits on motions.

Yeah, I’d put good money on a continuance of this trial. I don’t think either side is going to object, in light of the ongoing New York trial. This doesn’t even require Cannon’s influence.

But we are ever so slowly making progress towards a resolution.

Nothing else to add.

Trial is now postponed indefinitely. What a tool.

Have hope; I’m here to share hope. Trump will lose in November, and the urgency to get this shit rolling will be diminished. He can run, but he can’t hide.

Isn’t it fairly common for one person to be on trial for multiple things at a time? Criminals gonna crime, after all. Surely there’s some standard procedure for dealing with something like that?

I think that’s where Cannon comes in. If the Supreme Court wasn’t also slow walking Trump stuff, I’d call her unique.

As always IANAL, but my unimpeachable expertise that I gained with a couple of Google searches suggests that the different courts handling the different cases will coordinate and try not to step on each others’ toes, just as they are with Trump. That isn’t something special that’s happening because of who Trump is, that’s standard when someone is accused of multiple crimes and/or the subject of multiple lawsuits in different cases and different jurisdictions.

The delays and general handling of Trump with kid gloves though, that is fairly unique, and has a lot to do with his status as a former POTUS.

You left out “Republican”. If a Democratic politician were alleged to have committed what Trump is alleged to have committed, it wouldn’t be like this.

That is our only hope. If he should win, the pooch is royally screwed. We need Democratic presidents for the next 20 years to unpack the judiciary.

However, Judge Cannon is set for life. Likely the next SC vacancy is hers. Which is likely what she’s gambling on here.

I hear you. But we only need 4 years to hold this fucker Trump accountable. I’d like to see Cannon try to delay this for four years.

Of course it’s still up in the air what the best Supreme Court money can buy is going to do about immunity.

Man, I’m trying to inspire hope here!

Aileen Cannon obviously follows this thread - my post from yesterday was surely her wake up call.

She can’t.

But she can still grant a defense motion for a directed verdict after the prosecution has made its case to a sworn jury, saying that Jack Smith’s team did not prove their case and therefore the case is dismissed.

No right of appeal for the prosecution if this happens.

Several legal experts I’ve heard have opined this is exactly what Cannon is angling to do.

As in: a jury sat and heard the prosecution’s case, but the case is never left for the jury to decide? That sounds like matches and flammable items coming together.

Exactly like that.

ETA: It would be a filthy thing for her to do, but something tells me Cannon doesn’t mind that.
