FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

But false.

Good point.

I heard some Republican lawmaker say that the “Democrats better have the goods” or they’ll be hell to pay.

I thought, “When you drive through a red light, and a cop pulls you over, do you say ‘You can’t give me a ticket. Do the Democrats have the goods?’”

The cop would look at me like I was deranged. “Democrats” having “goods” has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. End of story.

Eh, he was Commander in Chief. Why not a military tribunal? The crime of stealing the stuff was done during his stint, same with the Insurrection.

Because the whole point of the President being C-in-C is to have civilian control of the military.

Eh, just trying to break down the silos by bringing options to the table. That way, the team can take a 30,000 foot view before parameters are redefined.

(Been taking correspondence-by-mail courses on CorpSpeak. How am I doing?)

I think it unlikely that it would come to a jury trial. Yes, Trump has a history of ignoring good advice, but this is the first time he’s facing the situation of going to actual prison. Before, all he’d lose is money, and losing money has never slowed him down.

But prison? For the rest of his life? Even a ten year-sentence could be the rest of his life. That’s a bit more sobering.

And even if it does go to trial, sure, there might be a few Trump supporters on the jury. But they’ll exclude the more extreme Trumpers. Even just a few questions will clarify that they’re insanely biased, which is a no-no for being on the jury.

Any Trump supporter smart enough not to impeach themselves by mouthing off won’t be as fanatical as the ones we see at rallies.

And there’s one important thing that’s different about a trial vs. Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN: They’ll hear the real evidence, and not be allowed to just tune it out when they don’t like it. This isn’t going to be a quick in and out trial, it’s going to last weeks or months.

If, after maybe months of hearing all the evidence against Trump, even the most reasonable Trump supporter will still vote to acquit him purely out of partisan spite, then the US is pretty much doomed no matter what you do. So you might as well shoot for the Moon.

People talk about Trump like he’s got an infinite lifespan, it is amazing.

Mary Trump thinks the evidence points to Kushner being the informant. He fits the criteria above (the knowledge and credibility to move a Federal Court to take action).

If this is true, it would put Jared and Ivanka as a permanent entries on my annual death pool.

That is a fair statement of the situation though is it not? Whether couched in partisan terms or not.
This is perceived by many Republicans as a politically motivated attempt to prevent Trump from standing.
If it turns out that a conviction doesn’t result and the Republicans take power then in their eyes any retribution they enact will be fair enough.

Right, and it’s not just in initial interviews but during the trial also.
A typical Trump-flag waving, “antifa did Jan 6th” moron, is not going to have sufficient self-discipline to refrain from (re-)posting on social media during the trial.

Trump has assembled an army that is great for intimidation, breaking down democracy and tearing society apart. But that comes unstuck in the courts every time.

God and Satan are fighting over him. Loser gets him.

As others have already pointed out, excluding jurors who are too prejudiced to sit impartially is not that difficult. In fact, it’s the whole point of the voir dire process. The issue isn’t whether they are a Trump supporter. It’s whether they will agree to set aside their preconceived notions to hear the evidence in an impartial manner. If they lie, that’s a basis for a juror to be replaced with an alternate juror before a verdict is rendered, and a mistrial if after.

I am certain this would be the most careful jury selection process that ever occurred (if it does occur). And as @Horatius points out, hearing real evidence instead of the garbage they hear in the RW media sphere is a whole different thing. Very sobering.

This is a wholly incorrect statement. Misdemeanor jury trials happen all the time.

University of American Samoa, I presume?

Their “Correspondence Community College” division, yes. You familiar with their work?

Seriously, though, drove past the FBI office close to my home yesterday and a half hour ago, no Trumpies.

So I made one of these and plan on standing out there for a half-hour, before it gets too hot. Thinking around 10am.

Hard for me to believe it was Jared, but maybe. He seemed so into the grifting.

Well, his doctor said he could live for 200 years! /s

He does have the best medical care, paid for by taxpayers now, which might offset his age and lifestyle factors somewhat.

And after trump pardoned his sleazy father. That’s gratitude for you.

I’m wondering how much of this could be pawned off on incompetent underlings. Which is incompatible with “I declassified it”, but I missed if he said that himself or if it’s just supporters saying he did.

I have an inkling they’re not conducting touch DNA testing on every single page of what they recovered with TS/SCI or Confidential designations because they’re planning to charge some lackey.
