There have been several threads on Twitter about how bad this is for Trump (or anyone, really). This is the most recent one I’ve read and is fairly explicit.
I must have heard the thing about touch DNA on the news at least 3 times yesterday, so I assumed I’d find something in print. Nothing so far.
I suppose it could have been speculation, but it didn’t sound like that. The news struck me, because I thought about how expensive and time-consuming it would be to accomplish it.
I guess we’ll know one way or the other soon enough. I hope I didn’t mislead anyone, though.
This isn’t charades. There’s no “sounds like” here. Harassment, in the legal system, has a legal definition; and I’m unaware of any legal definition that includes “trying people for the crimes they’re indicted for and haven’t been found not guilty of.”
If there is such a definition, I’m open to enlightenment.
Rand Paul wishing to eliminate a law so that Trump will not be guilty of breaking said law suggest to me that Rand Paul is fully aware that Trump is currently guilty of breaking that law. Thanks for clarifying Rand!
There is some nuance to this, and Paul has somewhat of a broader underlying point. But he knows how the headline will read, which is exactly what you say. I’m almost wondering if this is a sly way for Paul to dump on Trump? Is this a way to appear to be defending Trump, while bringing people’s attention to the fact that he’s guilty?
Paul’s hardly a guy you’d expect to break with Trump. But the obvious implication of this is just weird. Is he just that stupid?
Upthread someone suggested that the material taken from Mar a Lago may contain blackmail for elected GOP officials, this makes me suspect Paul knows he has exposure in that area.
Without allowing this to become a hijack, I do not suspect Greene and Bobert and Gaetz. I think they are either sincere in their delusion . . . or feel like they are in on the con so playing along. Gosar and Biggs could go either way (blackmailed OR sincere converts), Ron Johnson likewise. I am fairly well convinced that Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and others are in the bag due to blackmail.
This document thing does have possibilities despite my doubts expressed above, and the Georgia investigation also seems like a slam-dunk. I keep believing that once any one of these cases become something more than an investigation – well it will start to rain shit all over Trump and his enablers. The big one is actually the insurrection coup attempt including January 6th, but these will already be done and over before that case is ready to go I fear. I also am sure he will be convicted in the New York civil case before anything related to January Sixth is ready to go.
I keep hoping that the fallout of these investigations will destroy the current Republican Party as well as Trump himself, and cause them to rebuild in a much better and more reasonable fashion. I just hope Trump can bring McConnell, McCarthy, Cruz, and the other usual suspects down when he finally gets his just rewards through one of these court cases. (And then all of these cases.)
Next week isn’t soon enough to suit me! (I say as if ridding the nation of him eventually - - while he hinders the Republican cause in not just the 2022 mid-terms, but possibly the 2024 presidential election cycle if time predictions made in this thread are accurate.)
I hadn’t thought of that, but now you mention it it seems evident. He knows what they should have been looking for before he became president, but it is also a sure way to make the FBI aware of what to look for now. A nice twist on the Streisand Effect.
Then again, 15 boxes of documents can contain a lot about many subjects: himself, friends and enemies. And Saul Goodman’s file, of course. He knows everything, including how that story ended.
Follow the money would be the fastest normal answer. You can’t get votes without name recognition. You can’t get name recognition without advertising. You can’t get advertising without dollars. So the people with the moolah control the downstream process that moolah makes possible. Trump is a one-off, in that he had a large, national public TV platform and name recognition for decades. That equals a lot of advertising revenue not having to be spent. He didn’t need a bunch of outside funding to get the ball rolling. That, ultimately, enabled him (as a populist) to effectively take over the party.
I was having this conversation last night and the question was poised to me. And I was like “OMG, is it THAT obvious? So obvious that nobody has thought about it because of nuclear documents?”
And… yeah… speculating here, but it would seem readily apparent the target of the Mueller investigation… to name one at random… may take it upon himself to remove direct evidence of his involvement, especially since he was about to lose control of that evidence.
This makes a lot of sense. Trump isn’t the sort of guy (or president) to give a flying fig about nuclear security, bad guys getting The Bomb, World War III, or the end of humanity and Civilization As We Know It…all he ever cares about his HIMSELF.
He’s like the dog in the cartoon-- whatever noise or speech is going on, all he hears is his own name. And that’s all that matters.
Saw on the news this morning that the FBI is checking the documents for fingerprints, which makes sense. They also said that they’re checking to see if they’ve been photocopied. How is that possible? Are these documents printed on some special paper with some sort of indicator that reacts with a copier light?
We’ve seen every variation of the dog ate my homework from America’s Very Special Toddler. “I didn’t have the documents”. “I would have given the documents to them if they only asked” “I declassified the documents” “I want the documents back”
So he had lawyers sign an affadavit that no such documents remained. Then he claims that somehow everything he took was declassified under a standing order that nobody had ever heard of. Now he wants the documents back that only a few weeks ago he denied having. And now the party that claims to be the party of law and order now speaks of dismantling the FBI. And the useful idiot troll brigade on Facebook is posting “what about Hillary’s emails? What about Hunter’s laptop? What about Epstein’s flight logs?”
Jesus. These are serious crimes committed by Don the Con himself. The questions that need to be answered are:
why did he have these documents? Particularly since he never read them while in office.
