Great. So now I can rest easy about endless passport news.
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
Richard Nixon won his election in 1972 by a landslide, taking 60.7% of the popular vote. Richard Nixon left office a year and a half later in disgrace over Watergate, on August 8, 1974.
The truth will out.
I find the last paragraph of that article very encouraging:
“I don’t think anyone realistically thinks that Donald Trump took the documents off of his desk, pack them in a U-Haul box, put them on the helicopter, picked it up off the helicopter, put it in Mar-a-Lago,” he said. “Others did it for him. There must be several other people at least, who are in the scope and eyes of the Justice Department for prosecution under the Espionage Act and other statutes.”
And another potential flipper:
But reporting has since indicated that law enforcement previously subpoenaed documents Trump may have been keeping at his Florida residence and that one of his attorneys signed a sworn declaration in June indicating there were no additional classified documents on the property.
Custis got a settlement from Mississippi of $500,000, so somebody thinks it was wrong. I don’t care whether the repeated retrials violated some state or federal law against harrassment. Morally it was wrong. It was unfair when it happenned to a poor man, and it would be unfair if so many retrials were inflicted on a rich one.
I think the year and half after 1/6/21 is up.
And this is where we are:
Would the GOP Nominate an Indicted Trump?
Answer: Yes.
I think a simple “he stole valuable signed original documents from the National Archives” charge might stick. Nearly everyone is against stealing. The Espionage Act – progressives have long criticized it, and it requires a complex trial where there can be constitutional issues.
Prosecutions requirg a long trial – in this case, a trial where the jury would be sequestered, something that itself tends to hurt the prosecution – would turn DJT into a martyr.
So. Fucking. What.
Seriously, stop giving Trump these supernatural powers which he just doesn’t have. He doesn’t get to stop a criminal investigation just by declaring his intent to run for President. The fact that the deeply committed are even more deeply committed is interesting, but irrelevant. The fact that some individuals might actually raise themselves up to the level of violence does not matter in the big picture.
At the very least, his political future is fucked. He will be indicted, that decision has already been made, and he will have to focus on fighting this as well as the Georgia case as well as the NY case he deposed on last week as well as whatever J6 issues he may face on top of his financial commitments. He can announce, but it won’t matter. He won’t win.
I’m still reading through the thread, so I hope no one has yet called this “peefenestration.”
And this is where we are:
I think this is more a reflection on the Republican party and how far it has slid off its cracker than about Trump’s future electability.
The 2024 election is more than 2 years away. Trump couldn’t beat Biden before he had charges pending, couldn’t give Republicans either the Senate or the House. I’m pretty sure he’s not going to be the Republicans’ nominee in 2024, and I’m pretty sure he hasn’t garnered any new supporters as a result of this investigation.
But we’ll see.
I think a simple “he stole valuable signed original documents from the National Archives” charge might stick. Nearly everyone is against stealing.
MAGAs won’t care in the least
couldn’t give Republicans either the Senate or the House
From my recollection, Trump cost the Republicans the Senate.
I think that’s true. Thank goodness. I hope he does it again in 2022 and 2024.
I live in forest fire country. I keep a go box packed in case I have to make a quick exit.
Some of the things in that box are my passport and important papers. I hate to accuse Donnie Fail Fail of thinking ahead but maybe Melania taught him some spycraft.
Perhaps not, but the added stress of it being a definite possibility might give him an stroke or a heart attack. One can always hope…
I woke up this morning thinking that The Former Gibbon was just sucking too much oxygen out of the room, that he is still the focus of everyone’s attention – even ours.
However after realizing that day after day he brings his own cause down, maybe he needs to be the lead story every day until the mid-term elections. Once I accepted that fact, I started to contemplate the most ideal time frame for this criminal case, and the others, specifically the one out of Georgia. Keeping in mind that leveling charges within 30 days of an election is frowned upon, I just wonder how Trump can most help the Democratic Party in this cycle.
Without letting this become a full flung hijack, does anyone have a theory as to most ideal timing? (If anyone else cares- this could be split into a separate thread.)
I say: Charged on this case first full week of September. Motions filed and round the clock coverage for the next week – especially Trump making public comments which will eventually harm his defense even further.
Next, at the end of September Georgia announces they are ready to charge a number of parties over that overturning the election effort but will wait until after the November election to formally press charges. (Inflating speculation about several Republicans.)
Then, a preliminary hearing over Mar a Lago OR deposition by Trump himself in mid October with all of Trump’s endorsed candidates trying to break away from him.
Followed by an unprecedented blue wave on November 8th. On November 11th (Veteran’s Day) Georgia charges Trump, Graham, and Giuliani- along with all of the fake electors.
Finally on the 14th of November, Sydney Powell and all of her co-conspirators are charged with serious Felonies over breaking into voting machines in multiple states by Department of Justice.
Net result is Biden having a fifty-three to forty-seven Senate majority while still holding the House. Much good is done in the next two years including at least one Supreme Court Justice, maybe two.

As long as you’re being so ambitious, do you think you could swing me a pony?
“Sir, with all due respect, you publicly accused the FBI of stealing your passports.”
“…Dammit.”
No, it’d be, “No, I didn’t.”
“I have the recording right here.”
“See? See? Look how far the deep state’s tentacles reach!”
The Black Knight in Holy Grail has nuthin’ on him.
The Espionage Act – progressives have long criticized it, and it requires a complex trial where there can be constitutional issues.
What? Who are these progressives criticizing the espionage act? What are their criticisms?
Furthermore, do you think we live in a world where the DOJ gives a shit about what progressives think? Should the DOJ only prosecute crimes that progressives are cool with?

Republicans seem to have a real problem with electing criminals to the Presidency.

I’ve been wondering about this, too. To my recollection, pretty much nobody was saying anything about the Espionage Act until last week.
