Fear the Walking Dead: 1.06 "The Good Man" (open spoilers)

Ellis, yer no damn fun.

I figured the soldier tried to contact his CO, saw that things were goin’ to hell, and came back to catch Salazar.

It is amusing to me how people think Strand can order them off the boat.

He will soon get a lesson on differing power structures after the zombie apoc, hell type up an account and send it in to a journal…oh wait yea…

About fuel and the yacht; in TWD they don’t appear to have any trouble finding fuel for their various automobiles. Why would they have trouble finding fuel for the yacht? I’m sure it’ll be a plot point in season 2 assuming they stay on the yacht for very long.

Wouldn’t the yacht have emergency sails? Isn’t that what a yacht is?

Good points by previous posters about pirates; after all the magic of Walking Dead is humans are more dangerous than the dead.

That said you don’t know what your facing if you back on land. Out of control military, zombies, brigands, lack of resources.

You know exactly what you are getting at sea: no zombies, if you can fish, food, potential water, with a risk of piracy but perhaps you can find safer landfall before that happens.

As for Captain Cufflinks, he has clearly been debilitated by loss of blood or another injury and thats why he cant move.

As for why Mr. Strand wanted his jewelry back so bad, perhaps its a wedding ring or a ring his father gave him.

Of all the characters Mr. Strand is the one Im intrigued by the most, I think theres a lot more to him we haven’t been told about yet.

Talking Dead strikes again!

Travis’s actor revealed Travis made an offscreen deal with the soldier where if he released him he would shoot Salazar after the hospital break, and he beat him close to death because he was angry he broke the deal by shooting the daughter.

Off screen character motivations?! Stay classy Dead franchise writers!

At the very least, he seems to have the most on the ball. That’s a major plus in any zombie fiction, where plot advancement requires occasionally-quite-astonishing human stupidity.

There’s no more room in hell…so the dead walk the earth.

My favorite scene was Salazar walking up to the guard post and saying, “I’d save your ammo, you are going to need it.” Then I watched the first three episodes of TWD on AMC last night. Those walkers moved pretty fast, could climb and use rocks to bash in windows. I guess Cali walkers are just chill. I forgot how good season one was.

Season one of TWD was so good! I liked the fact that occasionally the walkers would use tools. Plus, didn’t Morgan’s zombified wife show some signs that just a tiny bit of her consciousness remained? I can’t remember what she did to make me think this…

Season one was sterling.

And at one point, Dr. Jenner describes it as a disease, but then later admits he doesn’t know what it is… virus, bacteria, parasite, fungus, or Act Of God. I’d forgotten that line.

But the characters didn’t seem flat or dull at all… unlike most episodes of FTWD.

I didn’t much care for the episode because there are simply no sympathetic characters in the show… except possibly Liza, and, well… she got bit. I lost all respect for the rest of the gang when they ended up being directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians, either by using zeds to storm the army base or by just leaving the damn gate open at their old neighborhood.

He’s already shown that he manipulates people and is quite proud of that. I think his ego made him grab the jewelry back because the game he played made him want to maximize his victory.

I’m just amazed how clean he keeps his suit, tie, and shirt. I’m also amazed that he was packing more dress shirts and what looked like no casual clothes. Maybe his riches are from inventing stain-proof clothing, but he doesn’t seem to be packing for the occasion.

A yacht can be a power boat or sailboat. The one they showed was a powerboat and looked like it had no mast suitable for a sail. I’m guessing the best they could probably hope for is something like a kite, a commercial example being SkySails.

I’m guessing that the cufflinks were a gift from his wife or child/children. They probably have some sentimental value. On the other hand, he probably has a few dozen watches that are at least as valuable as the one he behind.

Yeah, well, leaving the gate open at their neighborhood is kind of par for the course. If they’ll leave the back door open on their own house which is accessible from the driveway, AFTER SEEING SOMEONE WANDERING AROUND IN THE STREET, well, I don’t give these guys much credit.

Weirdly enough, I see Travis’ moment of truth all over the place… killing Liza, smashing zombie heads, beating up the soldier… but I find myself thinking that Strand’s moment of truth is going to come when he realizes there will never be dry cleaning again…

I’m guessing that he is a con artist, a crook, and an ass.

This is a great point. As much grief as we’d give normal humans for leaving the gate open to the town, the FtWD idiots get a free pass because they aren’t even smart enough to close the door in their own house.

I’m calling BS on this because not enough has happened in that time frame to make the character go from being angry and appalled that someone was tortured to arranging a murder. I think it more likely the deal was that he get away and not try to find them. Also, his kid and Madison and her kids would be there and there was too much that could go wrong. Travis is an idiot but he’s not that big an idiot. I don’t care that the actor said it, it’s out of character, then again the writers seem to have lots of issues with writing intelligent people so maybe it’s possible but unless he eventually says it on screen as the character I am going to ignore it.

In regards to them leaving the gate open, I thought Salazar was going to close it since he waited by the gate while they drove out but then they end up leaving it open. Seems the only reason for that was so that Travis would get nervous that Salazar would notice the soldier wasn’t there. Then he subsequently doesn’t close the gate. Stupid.
