Well this was defiantly better than the last 3 episodes (also I got Nick in the Story Sync) this time. That was a surprising revelation about Strand, but it does explain some things.

I don’t think this bad show warrants a ‘Talking Dead’ followup. A lot of drummed up excitement and noise over nothing much at all.

On the other hand, Yvette Nicole Brown’s commentary is great. They could have her on TD every week and I wouldn’t mind.

As for the ep, the reveal about Strand was interesting; I was less taken with the contrived peril our motley crew was put into, as well as the rather glaring discontinuity with the events of last week. Still, in this spud’s opinion, the best episode of the season so far, although I’m not sure that’s saying much.

Yeah, if Hardwick if gets sick or something she’s who’d like to see guest host. And she made a very good point about Alex knowing their names. If Connor found her then maybe tonight’s incident could’ve been avoided by letter her & Jake onboard or at least not cutting the rope (of course shooting both of them would also have the same effect).

I’ve enjoyed previous episodes, but I found this one plodding, slow, and devoid of tension. I enjoyed Strand’s backstory, but that’s about it. The final shootout was good, though.

so - i’ve quit watching actively - I can always ‘binge’ if it actually seems worth it - can someone please spoil Strand’s backstory for me?

In a series of flashbacks, Strand is shown to be in business with a wealthy Mexican real estate developer, who is also likely to be involved in less legal criminal activities.

That’s who Strand has been in contact with, and who is awaiting him at the Mexican estate/safe area.

The big reveal at the end is that they’re also - shock! horror! - gay lovers.

The entire family was at gun point for most of the episode. It seemed to have tension to spare for me.

Well, despite the entire family being under the gun, I found very little tension. No one really seemed in danger.

Thanks -

Good lord!

We are to watch it tonight, and I shall keep Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) ignorant of the above spoiler.

How did Madison know everyone turns when they die no matter what? is that something they’ve dealt with already?

IIRC Liza found that out from Dr. Exner while working at the field hospital and told everyone. This group is learning at a lot faster pace than on the parent show (things are happening too fast in my opinion). Also It’s interesting that Mexico apparently still has it’s shit together enough to maintain some kind of control over it’s borders while civil & military authority in the US seems to have collapsed, at least in SoCal.

Even without a zombie apocalypse, how exactly is the entire coast of Mexico a patrolled border?

We’ve seen our motley crew go ashore at random, dock-less points along the coast. You’re telling me there’s no possible way to go ashore similarly at any point in Mexico? Every square foot is patrolled?

We can tell exactly where Nick came ashore; we know the Abigail is (slightly) North of that, but yeah I doubt the whole coast is being patrolled. Is the Baja house on the Pacific side or the Gulf of California side? They might still have a ways to go.

That’s why I put it in a spoiler box

And we saw the unbitten little girl turn last week after taking her “Power Pill.”

I don’t think they’re as concerned about the coast as the water close to the coast. Strand’s associate mentioned arranging safe passage for two through a flotilla; it remains to be seen if this is a last gasp military effort, or a pirate fleet.

I also had a generally better opinion of how this episode went. We see Nick being quite competent, though we really haven’t seen get enough experience to be able to handle a potential zombie situation with such breezy non chalance. We see an arch enemy show his face, though he’s not that compelling so far. We see our fearless crew act in coordination when they get an opportunity to act. Weirdly coordinated for people who didn’t have a chance to discuss plans. Strand got a hook stronger than just being the man with the golden voice. The radio plotline wasn’t just dropped as just a suggestion of menace but an ongoing problem, and the girl is facing up to her responsibility in the mess and will presumably emerge as less of a dipshit. Overall, a story not driven by rank stupidity.

Now, Travis and the girl are kidnapped. I’m not sure I understand what the end was, whether they brought Travis because he can fix boats, and the girl because they intended to pass her around, and the rest were left with grim hints that they would just be executed. And the fight at the end was kind of a blur, but did all the pirates get killed?
